My yorkie can't bark I was wondering why my yorkie can't bark? She is 7 yrs old. Can anyone tell me why? |
Could she bark before? If so I would have her checked out by a vet to make sure that she does not have a growth in her throat or something. Is it possible that she could of had an injury to her throat when you were not around? |
I just adopted her and i noticed today when someone ring the door bell she tried to bark. It sounds like she wants to so bad but she can't get it out. its like a whisper. |
Could she have been "debarked"? |
debarked O M G I hope that precious baby hasn't been debarked that would be barbaric I would be taking your baby to the vet just for peace of mind  dianne  |

Maggie does her fair share of barking. Now we are training her to at least whisper. |
Muffin liked the sound of her bark quite well. :D Now, Kacee, I've just heard her bark a few times so far and that is always when she is playing. She doesn't really "look" out the doors yet, but I'm certain she will. ;) I just can't imagine a silent yorkie. It doesn't fit their personality. |

I just found out today that the other owner debarked her i am so mad why the hell would someone do that to a sweet dog. Is it legal to do that if not im going do something because its not right its animal abuse. |
Oh I am soo sorry! That is a crime! They don't bark that much, do they? At least mine doesn't! I'll bet you are soo mad! How would they like it if someone clipped their vocal cords? Why do vets do this anyway? Poor little thing! Just love him more and try to make up for it. That is about all you can do now! Pat |
Do they not think that their house could catch on fire or something bad happen when their not home she couldn't bark to save her life or theirs. It really makes me really mad and hurts me because she is a very sweet dog. People are so cruel and selfish! |
That is so sad. I am so glad she is with you now. Why did they give her up? Just curious. |
That is sad that someone would do that to a poor yorkie. I am glad she is with you now. |
The owners brought her back to the breeder because she didn't want her anymore so i adopted her and i just found out that it wasn't the other owner it was the breeder and its been done to her for a while. And on top of that she let her teeth get really bad but i'm getting them fixed. Shes with me now and im going to take good care of her. |
Im so glad shes with some one that will love her now. Poor baby. Do you have pictures? |
Im glad that little doggie has you. Take good care of her and she will give you tons of love in return. :) |
can't someone turn her in for doing that to an animal? that just brings tears to my eyes. here i am wishing that mine could talk to me and they take away the only method of vocal speak they have. so very sad. isn't it sad to think that if more people knew about debarking there would be more of it? lazy people don't want to take the time to train them. |

Poor baby! where did you get the Yorkie?,check up on her health with whoever had her,i think that is probably what has happened  |
That should be illegal to do that. If whatever they do to debark them has to be done, it should only be done because of something medically necesarry. How immoral!! Thank God she is with you now. A vet should have their license revoked for something like that! |
my yorkie wont bark! Help im having the same problem. My lil girl is 12 weeks old and ive had her since she was 10 weeks old and not once have i heard her bark. Shes great with other people, but never gets upset or mad. Im hoping she just doesnt know how to bark. Help! |
I am glad your dog is with you now :) My Knox never barks, in fact I have had him for 6 months and I have only heard him bark twice EVER. I have wondered if that was normal also  |
Prince does that sometime because of his collapsing trachea. It is very painful to listen to and watch him. I hope it's not that.:(:(:( |
Mine won\'t stop barking... anybody want to trade? :D This is an extremely old thread... Young puppies may not have learned how to bark and may start off with growling... Older dogs that don\'t bark or can\'t should be seen by a vet....:D |
One of my males was 6 months old before he even tried to bark. Heard my teenage son singing in the shower one day and started howling out. |
I saw that it was an old thread too, but it was interesting to learn that some actually have their dogs "debarked" - very weird. Anyway, mine learned to bark - probably after her 2nd birthday. She is very quiet - and I like it that way. She now barks only if the doorbell rings. Consider yourself lucky if you have a quiet one too. I have another one though - who is not so quiet. |
Mine started barking a week after we got him at 16 weeks and hasn\'t stopped since. |
