TLC, Im so sorry that your pups are not feeling well. I hope they start feeling better soon. Please keep us posted. |
Thanks Again Everyone! I will try not to worry (I guess I would love to sleep all day if I could too!) They both are pooping better. But I am going to continue the chicken and rice for another day or 2 to make sure. I am also leaving some dry food out and they nibble here and there, especially later at night. They still are not drinking to much during the day, again it seems more at night, so I am going to give them some pedialite again, is .50 cc enough? I am going to give them a bath today. I haven't really washed the tops of head to good b/c I was afraid of getting water in their ears, but I think today I have to b/c I have noticed them trying to scratch there more. TJ especailly. He has been rolling his head on the carpet (1x) and also on his blankets. I have noticed they do have some spots of dry skin on their bodies, so I wonder if that is the case on the heads/ear, I hope it is not something else. I'll keep you updated, but if anyone knows how much pedialite? Thanks |
Hi TLC! How are TJ and Roxy doing today? |
Thanks for asking. They seem to be doing better. We went for a car ride on Sunday and they both slept the whole way. When we got home we tried to take them for a walk to the next door neighbors, but being that they have never been on a harness/lease they really wanted NO part of it and just sat there (TJ even lied down on the driveway). We brought them back and I put them in their room after the ate (so we can go and eat) and I left some Eukanuba out for them. When I got back I noticed TJ licking his leg, I thought maybe a piece of rice was stuck, but it seemed to be a combo of dry food and rice, so I think maybe he threw up. Of course there was NO OTHER evidence (if he did throw up, he and maybe she ate it again). But they were fine that night. I slept in the room again and heard no problems . When I came home from work on Monday, TJ had left poop (and it was a little soft with a tiny bit of diarrhea, BUT NO MUCUS :-) and the color has returned to dark (it had been very light). On my way home from work, I stopped to buy Innova for puppies. I fed some to them along with a tiny bit of boiled chicken and they really seemed to like it. No throw and No diarrhea. They played like normal and drank a good amount too. I gave them both baths and really worked in the oatmeal shampoo (they have been sratching a lot). They slept good through the night and pooped in the morning. TJ's poop was very soft, I had to wash his butt. They had their nutrical and then a little chicken and the Innova dry food. TJ did do a little cough (3x in a row) before I left for work. I really hope that that thing he had been doing: gagging kinda, trying to swallow and the dry heave throw up isn't going to turn out to be Kennel Cough. B/c then I guess Roxy has it too...So I guess I have to see what awaits me when I get home today and I will just continue to monitor them. Do I have to gradually stop the Eukanuba or can I just stop giving it to them and just use the Innova? If they have Kennel Cough is the cough suppose to be all the time and really harsh? |

The innova should be mixed gradually over a week..but I changed Maximus cold turkey because he would pick the royal canin out and leave the Innova.....so I was getting nowhere..as far as the cough I would take him to the vet asap..because Kennel cough can get progressively worse..Maximus caught it and I took him the next day..they gave him a shot (antibiotic) and a cough supressant and another antibiotic...he took the meds for 10 days and was all better..originally they gave a diagnosis of collapsed trachea but after 10 days it went away and no return..good luck..keep us posted!! |
Ideally you do want to gradually switch out the Innova... But like Maximus Annie would just pick out the new stuff and leave the old.. She did fine. No upset tummies :) So just play it by ear... Seems you've already given them some Innova and seem to be doing fine. So again just play it by ear... You're there. You know best :D As far as Kennel Cough goes... Annie got it when we first got her. The vet put her on antibiotics. It lasted for WEEKS! It wasn't constant coughing. But when she did it just sounded like this very harsh sound like she was gagging. Sounds kinda like what you describing with TJ... Which if it is Kennel Cough means that Roxy won't be too far behind. They'll be fine, but they will need some meds. But it does take time to get over. It doesn't happen overnite :) Annie was the same way when we first put a harness/leash on her. Would just lie down and wouldn't move... So just practice with them (maybe in the house when you're not doing anything) They'll eventually get it... Use treats, etc... |
Thanks for all the advice. I guess I will put a little of the Eukanuba in with the Innova and see if they pick out any of it. As far as the poop and the 'cough' I am going to see how things are tonight and tommorrow with them. The poop has definately gotten better. There has been NO mucus and it has got darker. It is just very soft (sometimes) and TJ did have a tiny bit of runny (but only a drop of it). I just don't know about the cough. It didn't seem harsh at all. It sounded like 3 little normal, kinda quite coughs. I have been sleeping in the same room and I kinda have been feeling a little sinus thing going on. Last night I woke up kinda choking (dry throat and maybe a little mucus), I put a riccola in and I feel back to sleep. Maybe the air in that room isn't so good? So again, as far as Kennel Cough, just don't know. I kinda want to hear if he does something tonight or tommorw. B/c up until now I haven't heard any coughs from him. (just once when he seemed like he was choking after he ate rice and drank really fast, I opened his mouth really wide to see if anything was there, and he did a loud cough). What do you think? |
I just wanted to Thank everyone. This site is awesome and I really don't know what I would do without it. Everyone is sooooooo nice and the information here is so vast and so helpful. TJ and Roxy are doing much better. It seems that they were deifinatley eating something that they shouln't have. I am monitoring them and keeping them well feed, and hydrated. We have gone to the Vet and they are doing well, growing normal, etc...I am relieved in so many ways and it really is b/c of the kindness I have found on this site! Thanks Again! P.S.
