Best Dry Dog Food? The owner said on the paper I should feed it Purina Puppy Chow. But I dont see it on the Premium Dog Food List. So what should I get for my Yorkie? and what moist food too for treats or special occasions? Thanks Anthony |
Hi Anthony Purina is not a very good food, I will try Canidea, California natural, Honest kitchen they are several good food but purina is not a good one:animal-pa |
See the only place I can buy dog food is Wal-Mart. Unless I buy it online. So can someone just tell me what to feed my Yorkie? Dry Food Wise and I will get multi-flavor for the moist food. Thanks Anthony |
You don't have any pet stores close to buy food from? How about your vet's office? Petsmart? Petco? Any food that you'll find in Walmart or the grocery store is really poor quality. I think everyone looking for a pet food should read this article from the Animal Protection Institute: http://www.api4animals.org/facts.php?p=359&more=1 If Walmart is your only option, I'd order food online. Besides the ones already mentioned, Innova is good, Castor & Pollux, Blue Buffalo and Wellness are good, too. |
You may have to pay about $10 more a bag for a large bag, but I'd definetly buy online. I feed Nutro Natural Balance and it's not that expensive. A large bag lasts me a long time. |
I feed solid gold, It last me a week and a half and the bag is 10.00. But you can order it online and pay 12-15 with shipping. My dogs lovve it and it doesn't hurt there tummy. heres there info: Solid Gold Health Products For Pets, Inc., 900 Vernon Way, #101 El Cajon, Ca 92020 Tel: (800) 364 4863 or (619) 258-1914 or (619) 258-5929 or (619) 258-2780 Email: dane@solidgoldhealth.com www.solidgoldhealth.com That link isn't working, but its a number and you can ask for a free sample:D |
Some good kibbles are: Orijen (be careful, this is very high in protein and could be too rich for your dog) Innova (same as above) Solid Gold Canidae Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul Wellness Artemis California Naturals Life's Abundance Canned Foods: Merricks Canidae Innova Evangers These brands might not all come in a puppy formula. No food that you could get at Walmart is a good one. |
I order 10 Canidae Canned Dog Food - Original and 1-5 lbs. Canidae Dry Dog Food - Chicken Rice. I hope this will be alright... |
Do you live anywhere near a petsmart or petco? I generally don't recommend petsmart, but even there, you might be able to find a better food than wal-mart. The foods sold at wal-mart are low quality and most are only rate 1 star foods. Take a look at www.dogfoodanalysis.com so that you can read about why those foods aren't good quality and compare them to the 4 and 5 star foods. |

Royal Canin Kibbles sorry wrong post, wanted to publish new thread but instead I posted here. My mistake :) |
We feed Amicus and our dogs do very well on it. Sounds like it may be hard for you to find in our area though. |
I'm wondering hv many tried Orijen ? they are claimed to be the best dry food ever, even beating Blue Buffalo... In Italy only few dog food from American continent sold here in Italy, and those include Acana, Orijen, and taste of the wild |
You may try super5mix.. It's natural and the kibble smell be a focus for dog and they will construct him want to eat it. |
Anthony if Walmart is your only only option, they sometimes carry a brand called Natural life . It has quality ingredients, if you can get your dog to eat it. Some people call it Lamaderm but its Natural Life in a can. If you have the option to order something you'd be better off but if not this is a decent food and Walmart carries it sometimes. |
The only dry dog food I feed my Yorkies is Orijen. I mix it up between the poultry, red meat and fish varieties. My dogs do very well on it. The Washington Glycemic Research Institute has awarded Orijen Best Food of the Year several years in a row. |
Langley cost wise how does this Orijen do compared to other dry dog foods? |
Our breeder recommended purina too but we wanted something a little more healthier for our puppy. We tried blue and it made her sick, and we panicked and switched back to purina and that made her sick. She has a very very sensitive stomach and the pet store recommended natural balance and we've had no problems! We get the fish because it's easiest on their little stomachs. I don't think my dog is nuts over it, but it's the only thing that won't make her throw up. (Her vet thinks she's allergic to chicken and grain). They also make treats that she can digest also. |
Hi Bubbleh1; I'm up in Canada on the West coast. I pay between $24.00 and $27.00 for a 5lb bag, depending on the flavor. I believe the Regional Red is the most expensive brand. I'm not sure what department store brand prices are as I have always purchased their food at specialty pet stores. |
Look at this: pet stores in Ridgeland, Ms - Norton Safe Search |
I feed acana which is the sister food to orjien and 5 lbs is 14 or 15 dollars, I buy in a small pet store |
