Depressed and concerned Hi: This is my first yorkie post. I just got my puppy yesterday, he is 9weeks old and very sweet, however he is not eatting. Today is day two and he started to have a seizure this morning. I am very concerned about him. He did drink a lot of water yesterday but no food, so I feed his Nutri-Cal, this was recommended by the breeder. I really don't know what else to do. Please help. THanks, Cindy |
Hi.. I have a brand new 10 wk. old puppy I got on Friday...She wasn't concerned on eating at first either... It takes encouragement because of the new surroundings. I take Sophie and hold her with some food in the cup of my hand. She likes that... I know..could wind up spoiling her..but she now eats from the bowl and my hand! ;) Good luck to you..keep working with her..and possibly let a vet peek at her too. |

Lots of people feed their puppies Boiled Chicken and Rice AND the Nutrical - but please take him to the vet first if he's seizing - that can be fatal if not treated.....GOOD LUCK |
I can only echo what red98vett says - vet now ! |
I have already lost one yorkie to seasures, dont wait, mine died after 3 seasures and it all strted after not eating for 8 hours, please take baby in RIGHT NOW |
Puppy Has your puppy been to the vet yet? If she is having siezures you should get her there fast. |
Please let us know how your puppy is and what the vet said. Ana xx |

get some pedilite and mix about 1/4 with his water daily (it will help him from dehydration) and try sliced turkey (deli) if he is receptive to turkey mix some into his dry food for a couple days. congrats with your new baby |
Since puppy is new to you he should have his first vet visit within 24-48 hours. Most breeder will pretty much demand this, I know mine did. Nutrical is great but dehydration is very serious and so are the seizures. Like everyone says - Go to the vet!!! good Luck. |
Oh good! So happy to hear you took your puppy in... Keep at it with the feeding..encouraging etc... ;) It really helped me to hand feed Sophie those first few days... Now she is eating all by herself without encouragement.. :) Keep us posted... |
I tried baby food for Chanel when she was tiny - if your puppy isn't eating - what did your vet say about it ? Maybe putting some baby food into a syringe and making SURE it goes down his throat till he learns to eat /or gets past this crises - No puppy should be having seizures without a reason....Did your vet tell you anything else ? Is he moving around normally ? He really REALLY needs to eat and drink or you could lose him..... maybe talk to another vet and see what they say ? |
Update: So I have been finger feeding baby food to Benny and also getting him nutri-cal. He drinks water on his own. He still looks depressed. It's day 3, does anyone know how long this will last? |
You may need to call back to your vet and let him know there is no change  ...Your little puppy should be playful off and on... Our wags its tail and greets us...so happy we are there.. :) Let us know..... |

I'm not saying non-stop playing - though at 10 weeks - mine were playing their butts off...but it sounds like your baby still may not be feeling good ? It can't hurt to make a phone call to another vet and see just see what they say - No more seizures right ? Is your baby lethargic ? If you THINK something is wrong still - your intuition may be telling you something...GOOD LUCK - I really hope he starts perking up ....if it were my puppy - I'd be worried too. |
