Itchy Skin.... Ok so we've ruled out fleas.... Poor Rascal itches contantly in the same areas. Even after a bath. Is there a lotion or anything i can put on his skin in those areas to help releive the itchiness? Poor guy is constantly scratching. We use an oatmeal shampoo on him btw. |
He has an allergy to something. Most times it's to what they are eating. Second it is weeds and grasses. Third it's whatever shampoo and/or conditioner you use. You will have to start from scratch to solve the problem. Take whatever food your feeding, away. Put him on a good home cooked diet. Next, each time he's outside, then wipe him down with a wet wash cloth after he comes inside. Then use a mild shampoo for sensitive skin. They don't have dyes or fragrance. |

Sounds like allergies. In what areas is he itching? Is his skin flaky too? Oily? |
He is itchy on his knees and on his lower back above his tail and also around the upper ribs. He is not oily. His skin looks a bit pinkish in those areas from constant scratching. Also his feet sometimes bother him. |
What are you feeding him? Sounds like a food allergy. |
Science Diet His previous owner said if i try to switch him on his food he will get very sick. ??? He's 8 years old and supposedly has a sensitive stomach. |

IMO - Iams and Science Diet are 2 of the WORST foods to feed. I always read labels - If something contains: By-Products (in any form of text) Corn (in any form of text) Made in China Not fit for Human Consumption Dog Food Only etc... These products NEVER make it out of the store - They are a BIG NO-NO ;) P.S. Canidae is my favorite :D |
funny you metion Canidae...we fed that to our lab and his coat was beautiful. I guess i am going to try to switch him over. Any suggestions on how to do this . See that the prev owner said I SHOULD NOT take him off it b/c of his stomach?? |
What is wrong with his stomach? B/c to be honest if he can handle S.D., than I think he could handle Canidae which is a better quality food  |

Also, you could supplement w/ some canned pumpkin and yogurt if things get "runny" at all. It CAN be done - and there are plenty of people here who are happy to help you do it! :D |
