I think you need to introduce the new food slowly over a weeks time. start off with 25% of new and 75% of old for a few days then do 50/50 and then 75/25 and eventually 100% of new. ;) |
Ok...here's the kicker.....his previous owner left his bowl out ALL day and just filled it up when it was empty. I have always fed my pets 2 a day. But she told me his blood suger would go too low if I did that.... So...what do you think...should I take it away until 2 feeding times? I am deff going to start to switch him to Canidae this weekend. |
I think free-feeding is just fine, as long as they're not overeaters. Many dogs can regulate their hunger just fine on their own - so if he's okay w/ free feeding, it certainly is easier! :) |
There is a local pet store that claims their food is all natural...it's called Nutro Max....but i looked it up and it says one of the main ingredients is wheat which is a big cause of allergies..... So my question is Canidae or Nutro Max? |
CANIDAE, hands down! |
Yeah I totally agree now! I did a comparison with that website listed by another poster adn it is by far the best! Thank you guys so very much!! I can't wait to help my little guy out with his skin and coat!! |
Oh that was you Wylie's mom!! ;) Thank you!! |
Well i switched him.... What a funny guy he is! I bought the canidae and added about 10% to his food......... He picked out every single peice of Canidae and ate it quickyl!! The rest just sits there.... LOL What if he refuses to eat the other? Will a complete switch over make him sick?? |

Some dogs do okay w/ complete switches, but it's usually easier gradually. Plus, if he does just pick out the Canidae - he's essentially doing his own 100% switch! LOL. He probably will eat the other stuff once his hunger gets to him. But, if he's just picking out Canidae and it doesn't bother his tummy - then I'd probably just go for it, if it were me. |
I had all kinds of skin problems with my 5 year old male Yorkie until I started using Coat Handler Shampoo and Conditioner and a product by Coat Handler called Skin Works. I really wish you would try these products for about six weeks. I think you would be very surprised at the results. The people at Coat Handler recommend that you bath him once a week for six weeks and then apply the skin works product on any areas that look pinkish three times a day. Jad |
Hi I adopted a 2 yr old yorkie female named Bayleigh she also has skin issues. I switch her food to Wellness Core and took her to the Vet for a cortisone shot and they also gave me Vet Solutions BPO-3 shampoo she has oily hair. It's been a week and no more itches. SO good Luck! Lisa :animal-pa |
thanks everyone for all the great suggestions!!! |
