Diarrhea in our bed at 7 a.m. (My poor Sully!) HELP! Ok so Sully got diarrhea in our bed, twice, this morning at 7 a.m. Talk about a rude awakening! My husband woke me up and of course we had to wake up and immediately take care of the problem. Poor Sully ran outside and hunched over in the pooping position for like 15 minutes. My whole house stinks, but I'm sitting here cuddling my stinky Sully because I know my baby isn't feeling well! :( We have not changed his food in 3 months and he eats well....and hasn't been fed anything but his Nutro dry food and water. I know to give him water now so he won't get dehydrated but he won't drink - We don't have pedialyte OR immodium AD.... It's a Sunday morning....should I call the vet or will this pass?! I'm so worried about my baby! I don't like seeing him suffering. He's sleeping in my lap now...I don't have the heart to put him down yet. |
Is it possible he ate something that he wasn't supposed to and you just didn't catch it???..Maximus is famous for this...lol, I would call the vet (if he is open just to get his opinion) but he will probably say to give him some water and watch to see if he gets better...(maybe put some water in a syringe and give it to him)..thats what I do with Maximus the one time he had diarheaa..it also came out of the blue and he was fine for the rest of the day |
Okay...thank you for your quick response! My poor nerves...I just want to cuddle him until he's all better...stinky and all! But oh girl, all over my comforter, it was GROOOOSSSS haha. First think Monday morning, off to the drycleaners it goes! I hope they can clean it b/c it was a Nautica. I'll give the vet a call and leave them a msg on the "emergency line" I guess. He's sleeping now though. |
He needs rehydrating - do you have a syringe you could give him a few drops of water to get him started drinking ? I'm not sure what pedialyte is but I assume it's the same as dioralite which is essentially salt, sugar and water mix to rehydrate during periods of sickness you can make some of that up yourself and give it using a syringe. Immodium isn't a good idea for a small dog if they have a bug it's best to get it through the system IMO. Not a nice awakening I would imagine  |
LOL...yeah I forget people are as;eep this early...lol...Maximus has me thinking everyone wakes up at 5:48...lol..I start my calls at like 8 am...lol...good luck..clean him up and maybe hold off on food for now..Oh yeah and I feel you on the comforter..my bf bought a mink blanket whenhe was stationed in Japan and when Maximus used to eat his poop he would climb on the comforter with poop in his mouth..lol...ummm at $80.00 a cleaning he was banned from the bedroom for a short period..lol |
Valerie, got any Pepto Bismol? Mag's vet told me I could give her 1/2 tsp. of Pepto when she had a bad tummy. Mag's poo was very loose this morning too. I have no idea why. Her tummy must have been upset yesterday, because she didn't eat all day, except a couple of bites. When she woke up this morning with a little whine, I took her outside. Good thing too, or I would be in the same boat with you. |
Poor little Sully..... I don't know about Sully, but I know on the (mercifully very few) occasions when Maggie has been ill, she acts as though the betrayal by her body has frightened her. All she wants to do at those times is to cuddle. Undoubtedly Sully is getting the best of all possible treatments just being allowed to sleep on your lap! I'd get water into him, by whatever method. I'd not worry so much about replacing electrolytes in him on the very first incident of illness. Seems to me that Sully is a pretty good size and age. Plus which stuff like Gatoraid makes me throw up. I can't imagine a dog liking it. And I bet the vet does tell you to use some Pepto. I know I've been given that advise by our own vet on prior pups with tummy upsets. (And, good luck on the comforter....I'm sure the dry cleaner will be able to help. Just let them know what it is they're having to get out!) |
Poor Sully! Tini is so sad to hear he is not feeling good! I would definately call the vet....who cares if they think you are paranoid...it is always best to check on these things especially if Sully hasn't been eating anything wierd. As for the comforter, I would try and clean it up and get some Shout stain stuff on it before it drys out....if the fabric is not dry clean only. That will make the cleaners job a bit easier tomorrow! Good luck and Tini and I hope Sully gets well soon! Joanne |
Cooked rice and boiled hamburger mixed together are good for dogs with this problem. I'd give him some Pepto Bismol and then later try the rice hamburger mix. You might want to feed him that for a couple of days just to settled his tummy. |
Bella was the same way yesterday plus she throw up 2 times. She is fine today, I assume she ate something she shouldn't of!! Hope Sully is feeling better! |
Check his gums and make sure he's not dehydrating...Just keep him hydrated by whatever means (ie. syringe of water or pedialyte) and tomorrow if you call the vet, he'll be able to give you more advice. Hope he starts feeling better! |

Diarrhea Sounds like Sully ate or drank something that didn\'t agree with him. Hopefully it will resolve but good thing you called the vet. Get better Sully! :( |
