Fish Oil??? What kind of fish oil does everyone use? Do you prefer regular fish oil, salmon oil or something else? Also which brands are the best and what difference has it made for them. Do you still give them Missing Link with the fish oil? Thanks everyone!!!:) |
I have used salmon oil. Ive heard of people using products with cod oil in them for the same purpose. I really like the salmon oil. I didnt use Missing link at the same time because I felt that would be too much suppliment |
I wouldn't give fish oil at the same time as missing link because the missing link already has the omega-3 fatty acids that she would be getting from the fish oil. There's no need. We use regular fish oil for one of our dogs, and it helps :) |
I get the Omegas/EFAs from a multi that also contains vits, minerals, probiotics and digestive enzymes. LOVE it! http://www.onlynaturalpet.com/produc...at/999065.aspx |
Layla gets Cod Liver oil. She is not on missing link and she also gets an Omega 3 and 6 vitamin! |
Thanks for all the great info everyone. Do you pour the capsule on their food or do you give it to them in the form of a pill covered in food? |
My breeder just told me she sometimes mixes Tuna or Sardines in with her dogs complete food. |
If you choose to use some sort of fish oil and get the capsules, pierce the end of it and pour it on their food...I don't think you need to use a whole one though. Maybe 1/4-1/2 is sufficient |
Great, thanks for the information. :) |
I don't use fish oil...should I be using it? |

We don't use any oil right now, besides vegetable or olive oil in their food, and the occasional tuna...should we be? |

I have read that Cod Liver Oil is the WORST to give to dogs. It doesn't really have that much of Omega 3 (as compared to others)...and... Fish Oil And Cod Liver Oil--Not The Same? No. Fish either store fats in their bodies (salmon, mackerel, menhaden, sardines, tuna) or in their livers (cod). Because fish also store Vitamins A & D in their livers, if a supplement contains fish liver oil, it will also contain high concentrations of Vitamins A & D. Avoid over-supplementing with fish liver oils because excess Vitamins A & D are harmful. Supplementing with whole body fish oils prevents accidentally overdosing a pet with fat-soluble Vitamins A & D. |
