Ginger has the itchies too. She is always scratching at her ears and gnawing on her paws. So we went to the vet. She now has predizone mixes with an antihstamine to take for a few days to see if that helps. Liz (our vet) says it is that time of year here in Virginia. But hopefully one treatment round will alleviate it for this year.

so you are giving temaril p ? Has anything changed to start the itching, laundry detergent, cleaners, treats, food, etc. How old is your baby? Allergies occur from 6 mos to 3 years - steroids are not a good long term thing - flea allergy is number one cause of itchiness. One flea bite can send a dog itching for 3 weeks. Are you doing flea protection?

how is the hemp oil working? are you using nutiva as that is best raw formula----Also raw coconut oil is great too http://www.qualityfirst.on.ca/CVO.htm- this is the best most pure form

Yes, it is temaril something. No, nothing had changed, she just got progressively more itchy. She is 14 months. She is on Frontline. No fleas, yeast infections or ear mites. Liz thinks we should just have to do this one treatment and she should be okay. I have also started adding salmon oil to her morning breakfast and went back to a stinky hypo allergenic shampoo that didn't make her itch before. We aren't going to do this long term, but may need to do one round yearly around this time...

So far (since last wed) she is doing much better, She scratches occasionally, but not constantly. The allergies were also affeecting her ability to breathe. She could walk for more than five minutes without getting ready to pass out. Now she is running and playing again.

Yeah I noticed that my Dunks' been itching more lately that I switched him back to Canidae from Avoderm. I swtiched him back to Canidae because Avoderm gave him diarrhea. But I did notice that he itches more now that he is back on Canidae. Any suggestions on what to add to his diet so he's not so itchy. My vet said that he had kinda dry skin, so now I only give him a bath every other week with Minksheen.. I am thinking of switching his shampoo as well - to something milder with oatmeal. Any suggestions?

i recommend maybe try bathing once a month if dry skin causing itchiness. Also i would add 1/4 tsp of raw coconut oil from this company only http://www.qualityfirst.on.ca/ as purest form - it has 50 times the vitamin e and all natural - dd weighs 6lbs and it really helps skin and coat. If that does not knock it out add 1/4 tsp of hemp oil by nutiva from whole foods as well for anti-inflammatory. Also i do probiotic dds plus 30 minutes prior to food as it puts good bacteria back in system to ward off skin infections from itching. Shampoo wise stick with something with coconut oil base, aloe vera, oatmeal. I am still trying different shampoos and i think i have tried them all but tropiclean puppy and kitten would be good - it is at petco. The minksheen has a lot of citronella, etc in it and might be making yours itchy - i bought it too but have not tried it yet. Buddy shampoo and conditioner are great too but have only used on my non-allergic dogs thus far and no itching.

does canidae have corn, wheat, soy or chicken in it? could be allergic to that ingredient. How long was yours on avoderm when getting diarhea as you have to ween them from one to another over the course of 7 days

great hope she is doing better - just a heads up raw coconut oil and hemp oil are better than fish oils. Coconut is a natural anti-bacterial and it has 50 times a vitamin e capsule and hemp oil is a natural anti-inflamatory like fish oil but it is a better omega 3-6 ratio - it is 4 times the fish oil. I'd try the benadryl. If that doesn't work try calling your vet, and see if she/he has any suggestions.

I am glad i found this thread because i posted one a few days ago about Tobey's hair thinning on his belly and lower sides and did not get a whole lot of feedback. now I am convinced that he is allergic to wheat because last week i switched his food from Merrick's to Royal Canin and that is when it started (big mistake on my part) I am switching him to Artemis kibble starting today so hopefully his itching and hair loss will go away. he has such thin hair already.. :(
He can't eat Merricks anymore because he makes a HUGE mess trying to pick out the little bits of dried vege's and fruits instead of eating the kibbles and i am tired of sorting out the kibbles :p Does anyone know of anything to help with thinner hair on a yorkie? or weight gain? he is so skinny even though i've tried to feed him good food since he was little.

Have you tried Canidae... My dog is not really a picky eater, but there was a big difference on appetite (or loving his food) when I switched him to Canidae from Science Diet. I mean he would eat the Science Diet, but he would only eat until he's content (hunger feeling is gone). But when I switched him to Canidae, he would eat constantly. I just leave his food out for him (I take his food & water away at 8-8:30 so he doesnt wake me up in the middle of the night to go pee/poo outside) and he eats - a lot... He's gained weight since I've put him on Canidae. I've tried Avoder since my baby has dry skin, but he lost some weight coz he didnt like it. So I would try and email Canidae and see if they send you a free sample.
