We use it because it is about the only food our baby will eat. We have tried just about everything. |
Personally, I wouldn't feed it. Here's why (taken off of Royal Canin's website) http://www.royalcanin.us/dogfood/yorkshire.html : Ingredients Chicken meal, brewers rice, brown rice, chicken fat, chicken, corn gluten meal, dried egg powder, barley, natural chicken flavor, cellulose, dried beet pulp (sugar removed), anchovy oil, dried brewers yeast, potassium chloride, soya oil, fructo-oligosaccharides, salmon meal, calcium carbonate, sodium tripolyphosphate, choline chloride, dried brewers yeast extract (source of mannan-oligosaccharides) , taurine*, Vitamins [DL-alpha tocopherol (source of vitamin E), inositol, niacin supplement, L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (source of vitamin C*), d-calcium pantothenate, biotin, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), riboflavin supplement (vitamin B2), thiamine mononitrate (vitamin B1), vitamin A acetate, folic acid, vitamin B12 supplement, vitamin D3 supplement], magnesium oxide, borage oil, Trace Minerals [zinc proteinate, zinc oxide, ferrous sulfate, manganese proteinate, copper proteinate, copper sulfate, manganous oxide, sodium selenite, calcium iodate], glucosamine hydrochloride*, L-Carnitine*, DL-methionine, marigold extract (Calendula officinalis L.), tea (green tea extract), chondroitin sulfate*, preserved with natural tocopherols (source of Vitamin E), citric acid and rosemary extract. There are too many fillers and carbs in it. I just switched to Innova EVO small bites. It has the following ingredients: Turkey, Chicken, Turkey Meal, Chicken Meal, Potatoes, Herring Meal, Chicken Fat, Natural Flavors, Egg, Garlic, Apples, Carrots, Tomatoes, Cottage Cheese, Alfalfa Sprouts, Dried Chicory Root, Taurine, Lecithin, Rosemary Extract, Vitamins/Minerals, Viable Naturally Occurring Microorganisms As you can see, it's a much more natural dog food and is hi-protein, low-carb, and grain free! Canidae and California Natural are great too! |

I feed it. The dogs love it. Their stools and always good. |
I've been feeding it forever. The kids love it, they are healthy and stools good. We just switched to RC beauty coat to lose the 'beets' and they like that even better. At 27% protein, it's not fillers or carbs, and and lots of good vitamins. We also feed the Shepherd mix to our GSD and she is magnificent. My vet says it an excellent product. AND no recalls for gluten. |
I had to feed Royal Canine for a month when I went to Texas cause they didn't have our food. It was the puppy one though. Although Holly really liked it, my vet did mention the protein. We now feed Canidae and she loves it. Hope you find the right food for you. |
what percentage of protein/ can someone please tell me what percentage of protein can a 6.5 lb yorkie have per day ? i home cook for him and he gets either ground beef , ground turkey or chicken breasts , plus all other ingredients that i add. he also gets a super vitachew per day and the missing link . i also feed him royal canin for yorkies and after reading all this i want to switch to another premium dry dog food. i just checked out innova evo small bites and canidae which both have a protein % of about 24% to 27%. i just do not want to feed him alot of protein per day and make him sick. thanks so much everyone for your replies ! elle |
I use Royal Canin for my Yorkies . They never had problems . |
royal canine :aimeeyork i fed my yorki for about 5 yrs with royal canin and thought it was great. kibbles are small and i thought he liked it. but now reading all of this maybe thats why he's been itching and scratching. may be he developed an allergy. he also is a big yorki, 12lb. and his doctor says that he is not fat but buffed.i have tried today mixing his kibbles with a "evengers super premium dog food". we'll see.:aimeeyork |

I was thinking Royal Canin..but some people have said that its too high in protein...what harm can this do to a yorkie? |
i use it on my yorkie and have never had a problem with it |
i HAD CHESTER ON IT A WHILE BACK AND CHANGED BECAUSE IT HAS CORN GLUETEN IN IT AND BEET PULP WHICH IS SAID TO NOT BE GOOD. tHE DOG FOOD ANALYSIS DOES NOT RATE IT VERY HIGH, THAT WAS KIND OF DISAPPOINTING. |
Wow, I Have Been Using It Becouse My Breeder Sent Us Home With It. But Never Any Problems. It Seems To Be Great For His Coat Aswell. And Is Stool Is Fine. But He Does Seem To Itch. |
I had been feeding RC puppy 33, but now Chloe has high Bile acids, I'm going to be switching to a lower protein food. Those of you feeding canidae, which one do you feed? We've tried the all life stages; she didn't like it. We have the lamb and rice which she is so so about. I have not tried the chicken and rice on her, but I have samples... |
