Is a micro chip big? I know it is called "micro" but how big is it? Are there any bad side effects? Does it ever cause scar tissue or hair loss or anything? Where do they put it? I know there is some talk about dogs getting tumors at the injection site for vaccines? What about these? I want to do what is best but...:animal36 As you can tell...I dont wanna hurt my baby! |

Izzie was only 12weeks when I got her and she was already chipped. It's so small I can't even feel it, like someone said a grain of rice. I had Bella done when she was spayed, but alot of people are doing it sooner. I know it hurts your feelings to make you baby hurt, but in the long run it's worth it. |
I had both my new cat and Lacy microchipped and they were both awake and all. Sophie (my cat) didn't seem to even really notice. I just remember Lacy letting out a little whine but that was it. Every dog will be different painwise. It's just like getting a shot, but the needle is bigger. I'm sure it hurts a little but it is overwith quickly. The microchip is the size of a grain of rice. Most of the time you can't feel it once it's implanted, but I can feel Lacy's and Sophie's...but it is hard to find. Lacy got an AVID chip and Sophie got a Home Again chip. After I got Sophie's, I also registered Lacy with Home Again. I recommend Home Again because of all the extras they do - like send allerts out to all shelters and vets in your area if your pet gets lost. Plus, Home Again has been advertised like crazy so a lot of people have heard about it. |
I've had a lot of fosters microchipped and some yell their heads off. I have noticed the different sizes of needles from a couple of those companies. Ask your Vet. about the difference in needle size. I got Zada done when she had surgery. I think I'll wait to get Azrael chipped when she goes in for teeth cleaning. Right now they LOVE to go to the Vet. and I literly have to drag them out of the office. I don't want to ruin that. They are so happy, well adjusted and not afraid of anything. |

I have a fantastic Vet. and he has never once caused any pain on any of my dogs. I think most dogs don't like going to Vets. because of the smells there. |

The microchip is about the size of a grain of rice. It it usually placed up near the shoulders. The injection is not very painful at all. My yorkie yelped but my 3.5 lb Chihuahua didnt really every notice. The injection is right under the skin. They will pull the skin up to make sort of a tent and then insert the needle into the center of the "tent". It does not go into the muscle or anything. It stays just under the skin. It is honestly just one poke and they are done. |

Here are some companies that provide microchips. The last one is in Australia. If you plan on microchipping your dog you should find out which company is used by most of the shelters and vets in your area. So there are a few to choose from. Right they are technical issues. Thats why I say it is a personal choice. You have to do what is right for you and your little ones. I'm a military wife and all Army bases now require pets to be registered with them, especially if you live on base, AND they require all pets to be microchipped. The reason? Too many pets escape, get lost, etc while moving or just on accident. So when the base personnel finds the pet, as they usually do, they can identify the owners. My three cats have been microchipped for years with no adverse side effects. In fact the cats didn't even react to the initial injection. Eury is scheduled to be microchipped on July 11th. The vet initially wanted to wait cause when I first took her in she was barely a pound and he wanted to wait till she was a little bigger so it didn't hurt her too much. :D Gotta love a good vet! :aimeeyork Chelle |
