| Thanks, I am going by to get some this evening. One of my boys has been recommended to start on Sam-e Milk Thistle because of a "defecient liver" (not sure what that means). The vet referred to him as a liver dog and he said "liver dogs" who are high energy break out with skin irritations when hot weather occurs - I had to take my baby to the vet because he is covered with red skin irritations that is turning scabby due to itching. I am going to start him on Missing Link until I can find more information on the Milk Thistle. |

| Please start the milk thistle if your baby has a compromised liver....It's an all natural supplement that would only do good things for your baby. It has antioxidants that help protect the liver from further damage and help repair the parts that already have been damaged. Sam-E and milk thistle are different supplements, and Sam-E is also recommended for dogs with compromised livers. 90 mg is what is recommended for yorkies. My "liver dog" is on both supplements. Sam-E is also known as Denosyl and can be purchased at www.entirelypets.com or www.amazon.com You could buy milk thistle as Marin on those websites too. It has milk thistle and Vitamin E which are important for a dog with liver issues. I'll give you the proper dosage amounts for the milk thistle if you don't have them already. Why is your baby a liver dog? Does he have a liver shunt or HMD/MVD? Please join the liver shunt/mvd group on yahoo groups, and they will be able to further explain the benefits of milk thistle (marin) and sam-e (denosyl). What food does your baby eat? If your baby is a liver dog, I do not recommend Missing Link because it contains liver....Liver is an organ meat which is very high in purines which is VERY hard on the liver...If you want to have the effect of missing link without giving missing link, you can add fish oil to your baby's diet.

| Yorkieluv - thank for the information and link sites. I think I need to have my some blood work test done on my dog to make sure he is a "liver dog". The vet determined this by the color of his tounge (dark in the middle, light on the edges) and by feeling his abdomine area. This vet was not his regular vet I take Sam to and this vet was swamped with patients and in a hurry. I am going to take him to the reg vet this Sat so I can give the right supplements to Sam without causing further damage. |

| Did you have to have blood work test done to determine your dog is a liver dog? Do you have your dog on anything for his liver? |

| Yes, have a bile acid test done..It is fairly inexpensive (usually around $45 depending on the area) and will tell you if she is a liver compromised dog...
