Did you take her to the vet yet to see why she is having trouble. This sounds like more than just excessive licking to me. |
Red paws could mean a few things including insect bite or sting, infection, abscess, or blunt tissue damage. A cool compress gently applied to the injured paw can help reduce the pain swelling, if she'll let you near it. |
i just came home durin my lunch today to check up on Lisa, and she's in pain walkin on 3 legs. It looks like she's bleedin between her paws. I put her feet in hot water, clean her up a bit and went back to work. I'll look at her very closely during this whole week, if it's not gettin better, she'll be going to the vet this weekend. This is very frustating because she had a broken leg couple months ago and now her paw is bleeding. She was gettin better during this weekend when i was home and this morning she reopens the cut. We have alot of roses in the back yard, i'm guessing she was playing w/ my other dog and step on one of the thorn. She'll be sleepin in my bed the next couple days w/ a sock on. |
Did you check her paws to male sure there is nothing in them? Do you have metal edging around your flower beds that she could have cut her paw on? I dont think I would wait until the weekend if I were you since she is limping on it. |

Forgive me if this sounds out of line, but a bill for a quick vet check, wound cleaning and proper antibiotics if needed now will cost much less than surgery and IV antibiotics (not to mention the worst that could happen) later. I would have my baby at the vet today. This has been going on too long. That paw could have opened from infection. |
I would take her to the vet immediately does not sound good and you do not want to get this infected not too mention she is in pain :( poor baby |
i too think she should go to the vet tomorrow to have her foot checked out. If she's not letting you look at it that well then there very well could be something stuck in there. And if it was bleeding enough for her to leave bloody footprints then this isn't something that you should 'wait and see' on. She could get a serious infection in her foot which would cost even more at the vets office then if you were to take her tomorrow to check it out. 9 times out of 10, waiting will just make things worse. |
I did some research today and it looks like this might be a bit more serious than I thought. I'll drop her off to the vet tomorrow on my way to work, and keep you guys updated. :( |

I'm glad you've decided to take your baby to the vet. Several weeks ago Lacy's back paw became swollen and she was licking them raw. I had to go out of town for several days and had left her with a friend and when i got back they were pretty raw. She had a vet appointment at the end of the week for her annual checkup and vaccinations but I had it moved up because I was worried about her feet. I knew it was most likely due to her flea allergies, but I was worried about them getting infected. And if they were already infected I wanted to stop it before it got worse. If an infection gets into the bloodstream (can happen fast) your baby can die. The vet gave her some antihystamine/antibiotic spray and after a few days the swelling went down dramatically and her paws got much better. |
So glad she is going to be going to the vet...she sounds like she is in awful pain if she wont let you touch it without crying out in pain...certainly hope infection hasnt gotten in as infection can spread rapidly. Maybe being outside unsupervised isnt the best idea for her...you have alot more faith in the world out there than I do letting her sleep outside..with all the yorkie theft going on just on this forum its way too scary now adays to do that..and not knowing what she cut her foot on would have me a bit concerned too... |
