Chloe's getting spayed right now... ...and I'm a nervous wreck. Her Daddy is upset, too. She's also getting some teeth pulled (not sure how many, but at least 4). We ordered pre-op bloodwork, too & I'm having her tested for liver shunt while she's there because she hasn't been tested yet. I'm just so worried about her :( And what really bothers me is that I hope she's not thinking that she's in trouble *insert bawling here* Or that essay, "How Could You," that's my fear that she's thinking that. I can call after 1pm to see how she is & can pick her up between 4 & 5. Ugh!!!!!!! |
I sympathise as Button went for his yesterday & also had his teeth pulled. If it's any consolation, I'm having great difficulty trying to follow the vet's instructions for him to rest for two weeks, as he's hurtling around like an idiot, when he's not howling the place down when I put him in the crate to try to keep him still :( |
I'm right there with ya as Angel is being spayed today as well. I got home from dropping her off just a few minutes ago. My vet won't let her come home tonight, but that's probably a good thing with Sissy here cause I really don't think I could keep her calm today. She is also getting her puppy canines out as she has doubles!! Even though I've been through this with Sissy, I'm still ultra paranoid about Angel. The owner of the clinic (who is a friend) is doing her surgery, but I still wish it was the same vet we see regularly as she also did Sissy's. Angel is going to have a few external sutures (Sissy did not) and I'm supposed to keep her from running/jumping/stairs till she goes back in 10 days. We often refer to Angel as our jack rabbit because she jumps so much!! I hope Chloe does just fine and I'm sure we'll be commiserating again soon!!! |
I hope that all goes well for both Chloe & Angel today and they have a easy, quick recovery. How long do the stiches have to stay in? I am just curious b/c we have a friend that has one that had a c-section and got fixed at the same time... I am just wondering how long those stiches have to stay in. I hope that Button has a speedy recovery as well. If he wasnt already an idiot maybe his meds are making him one or if he was maybe they are making him an extra idiot ;) :D Good luck trying to keep him calm, not an easy task for playful ones. Take care |
Thanks, Jodie!! Chloe's getting her canines pulled for sure. She has doubles of all 4 of her canines (I'm not sure why she lost the others, but none of the canines ) & there may be more...she hates when Mommy looks at her teeth. I'm not sure about stitches, they didn't mention it. I switched vets because our old vets wouldn't let her come home the same day and she was going to be there alone, all night, totally unsupervised. I just hope she's still allowed to sleep with me, she's never slept alone since we got her. |
It is really hard not to be a nervous wreck. I will keep all of you and your babies, Angel, Button, and Puppy Lovin' Nurse's baby in my thoughts and prayers. Hope you all have a speedy recovery. My little girl, Roxee, gets her stiches out tomorrow!!! Yeah!!!! It has been a real challenge to keep her from running, jumping, or getting her too excited for the past week! Keep us posted! Hugs and kisses to your babies! |
Thanks Meggie & Rusty's Momma! |
I pray that she has a smooth surgery and a quick recovery! I know you must be worried sick, but she'll be okay :) Let us know when she gets out of surgery. |
Thanks, Thea & Yorkieluv! As soon as 1pm rolls around I'll be calling & posting! |
Oh honey, don't think of that essay now!!! "How Could You" was about neglect and what you're doing is definitely not that, you're giving her great health, love, and care. I feel your fear though - it almost makes me ill when I think of the day we're going to have to drop off little Marcel for neutering. My thoughts are with you and your baby! |
I've said a prayer for Chloe and Angel. Bless their hearts! I remember, having Maddie spayed, the fear and worry, and my heart goes out to both of you. I hope you both get the calls very soon saying all is well. Get well wishes to Chloe and Angel! Hugs to both of you! |

Thanks :( I know it's about neglect and all, but I'm so worried she's wondering why we left her with strangers. I gave her a kiss & told her we'd be back soon, but that essay won't leave my thoughts. :thumbdown :( |
Thanks Connie! |

If you have a crate or pen for her just let her sleep in that and you can sleep on the floor next to her. Prayers today for Angel and Chloe and their mommies |

Thanks! I do have a small crate for her, but she's never been in it before...at all. Do you think I should put her in it, or just sleep on the bed like usual? We have a queen-size bed & one side is right up against the wall so I was thinking about sleeping on that side & put her between the wall & myself. Do you think that would be okay? I probably won't sleep tonight, anyway, though & I didn't sleep last night - ugh. |
Saying a prayer for both Chloe and Angel! When I brought Kalani home he was pretty tired and out of it so I cuddled him a lot and was going to crate him at night but decided to keep him in bed with me like usual and he did just fine:) |

Thanks!!! I'm sure I won't be able to crate her. I may just have to camp out on the floor with ther bed right next to me (which she has never slept in ). |

Technically, there isn't vet staff overnight. Our vet also has a kennel and there is a technician who lives in the apartment above the clinic/kennel who does checks every couple of hours through the night. Angel has her bed, blanket and a chew toy (though I don't think she'll be chewing much) with her. I also took her yogurt and dinner and they are in their fridge. I also paid extra for a special IV to keep her well hydrated with added dextrose soe she won't get hypoglycemic while waiting for surgery. I'm still undecided if I'm going to see her this afternoon. When I did that with Sissy it was even harder to leave her............. |
Im praying for her. Hopefully the time will go quickly for you |

I asked about an IV during the surgery so she doesn't get dehydrated after reading someones story about how the tiny almost died after the surgery (Kalina82's Morgan, I think ), but the vet said they usually only do that for elderly dogs, so she's not getting it...I wanted her to, but I'll be with her 24/7 for the next few days so I'll be able to watch her & call in for an emergency if necessary. To be honest...I couldn't really afford it right now, either :(. |

Thanks! We dropped her off at 7:30...it's already almost 10, so it's going at an okay pace, I guess. I know it's going to get slower as it gets closer, though. |
 My cell just rang & scared the bejesus out of me. It was the vet. Chloe's okay, but they were just going to do bloodwork & I had asked the nurse to test for liver shunt, too (she said it would be okay) & the vet was explaining that it's not a good time when she's under the anesthetic. PHEW! She hasn't had the surgery yet... I was so scared to answer the phone. :( Why does that kind of stuff always happen at the WRONG time? |
I just called the vet's office - at exactly 1pm lol  - and Chloe's half-awake & doing well! The vet nurse said she just went back to check on her & she lifted her head a little bit. I'm SO relieved! She only had the 4 baby canines pulled, there were no others that stuck around. She said the surgery went really well. PHEW!!! Thanks for all the YT prayers :D Now, I have to figure out something to do for the next couple hours until I can pick her up at 4... Jodie - have you heard anything about Angel, yet? |
I just got the call from my vet about Angel. She is out of surgery and just coming out of the anesthesia. He said she did very well and also had just the 4 canines pulled. Phew, I'm glad that is done. I think I will go see her later and maybe take a strawberry or two with me!!!! She will be staying overnight, so I'm scheduled to pick her up tomorrow morning at 9:00am. I hope Chloe does really well with you this evening. Make sure they give you pain meds in case she needs them. Thanks for the prayers and well wishes!!! |

Thank goodness! Now I won't be worrying about either of them  :) They gave her an injection of Torbitrol (sp?) (a derivative of morphine if I understood correctly) and they're sending pills home. Thank God! I couldn't bear to see her in pain. Are strawberries okay for them? I've been trying to think of something I could take her for being such a good girl. I didn't want to give her anything too chewy because of the pulled teeth, but I think strawberries would be great! She's never had one before. |
oh don't worry, I am sure Chloe has the best VET to take care of her . . .she will be home in no time :) Please send her our warm kisses and hugs. |
The vet gave me some tins of Hill's Prescription Canine i/d in a recovery pack for Button, said it would be easy on his teeth & tummy, he loves it. He's also eaten some spaghetti & some little pieces of ripe pineapple. to be honest, his teeth don't seem to be bothering him much at all, he pinched Ellie's Gravy Biscuit! The problem is trying to keep him something like still  Thank you everyone for the kind wishes for his recovery :) |
glad to hear that everyone's out of surgery and doing fine. If the girls sleep with you tonight, just a suggestion, put an old towel under them incase they have some drainage or get sickies or just drool. I just got back from a 5 hr dr appt, blood work, eeg & cat scan of my head. Have to wash the stickies out of my hair. |

Pineapple is really acidic, be careful you don't give him too much - don't want his poor little tongue to get raw. I'll try some fruit or cheese or something. I think I'm going to stop at the store on the way & grab some strawberries for her. I'm afraid for her to be chewing too much :( I don't know if doggie mouths are like humans, but if anyone else has had a tooth pulled & then had a "dry socket" they'll understand the pain! I don't want that to happen to her (if it's possible for dogs, I'm sure it is though). She has a little bit of canned food left, about 2 Tbsp. Enough to last 2-3 normal days, but if she's eating less it may last a week. |

Thanks so much!!! That's a good idea about the towel...I wouldn't have thought of that. UGH! At the 5 hour doctors appt!!! I had to have an EEG & cat scan when I was about 15 because I started passing out & having seizures (never found out what it was, went away eventually) and I was so angry that they had to put that nasty crap all in my hair. Now I do it to other people  Hope all is well with you!!! |
