Actually dogs don't have may tasting buds like we humans do, so their choice of food is made more by the smell of it than the taste (that explains why they can eat some nasssty stuff) They beg because they also want to be part of your activity (eating) not just because it likes human food better. |
Yes, I definitely think that they feel left out when they see everyone sitting down at the table and they are on the floor. Poor things....I give my Dolce her regular food with like 2-3 tiny, and I mean TINY, pieces of cheese in it. Then she gets her treats here and there of apples and for some reason she LOVES cucumbers (without the seeds of course) and broccoli, and forget about a little yogurt....that is gone before i even put it down for her. However, she still eats her doggie food whenever I put it down for her...she knows even if she begs, she will either not get anything or it is never enough to fill her little belly (although my mother and I swear that she has the belly the size of a St. Bernard), so she better eat her doggie food. I will definitely have to try the Gerber Graduates though, that is an excellent idea!! Everyone on here always has such great ideas!!! Thank guys!! |
Wow, I didn't know that dogs didn't have as much buds like human... mmhhh interesting... I am definitely printing out this page.. A lot of good information here. -R |
I guess we have been the exception to the rules of giving them Human Foods. Our girls only get Royal Canin Yorkie food, and lately we've tried a treat of Natural Balance Turkey formula. It comes in a roll and we just slice off a little and mix it with the RC, they don't seem to mind eating it , we don't think they feel deprived of eating people food, with all the preservatives in it, its killing us, let alone the poor little pets. BUT....................... They do not eat alone, they have to have one or both of us with them on our bed when they " DINE ". I've tried leaving the food in a bowl on the floor in different places and they refuse to eat on the "ground level", so we make it a family time. They are only 5 lbs each and really SET THE RULES HERE. :D Even with them eating crunchy foods, the oldest now almost 7 yrs old, has to get her teeth cleaned every 2 yrs. Her younger sister is 5 yrs old now and is due for a first cleaning. I dread that but there doesn't seem to be any way to keep the tartar from forming on their teeth, I keep brushing but the vet said its just in their system to produce more tartar. |
Yorkie24U: Oh wow, that is funny. Cosita wont' eat if I am not around. The days I come in the office, she wont' eat all day until i get home. Even If I leave her food out. I usually have to sit next to her so she eats enough. IF I walk around she would immediately stop eating to follow me. The days I work from home, she eats more, but always when I am close to her. One eye is looking at her pot and the other one is looking at me to see where I am heading. she is funny. -r |
Its nice to know that our little girls are not the only ones that refuse to " Dine " alone. They are a joy and we cherish every minute with them. :) We wouldn't have it any other way ! :) |
Buckeye will come get me and lead me to his bowl and then head for the couch. Meaning he wants me to bring him his food and feed him one morsel at a time while he watches tv. The sad thing is I do it!...and like it!...Guish he has me trained well ! |
And We Thought We Had "them Trained", :) :) |
hahahhaha, they have us wrapped up in their little finger.. hee hee little toe? -R |
Yeah...they are superb, they can manage (and get along) with doing anything to us, and we will loooove it. hahahaha I have a friend that feeds her yorkie at the same time everyone is eating, that keeps her yorkie happy...in my case, i feed my boys i little before, by being full, they won't beg that much, they will basicaly just walk around the table searching for something that fell...ehehehe |

I was curious about this myself and had to find out. |
Yea, I was afraid that was the case. I feel bad for Cosita cuz she always wants what we eat. Just imagine giving her the same food all the time. I try to make her happy by giving her every now and boiled peas and carrots, grapes, cold carrots, apples... and on her dried food I add just a little bit of lamb and beef that I buy at the pet store. Sometimes I add to her dried food, just a teaspoon of any sauce we have cooked in our food. She thinks she is having a new stuff. She is not fat at all, and Dr told me she is healthy so far. I asked him if it was okay about mixing her dried food with a little bit of our sauces and he says it was ok. e.g. of sauce could be spaghetti sauce... just a teaspoon. -r :animal36 Quote:
