Yet, another RECALL....Chix Soup now....

Taken from Itchmo.com

Due to American Nutrition’s recall, the following Diamond Pet Food can formulations are being recalled:

Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul Kitten Formula cans
Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul Puppy Formula cans
Diamond Lamb & Rice Formula cans
Full Release after the jump.

(Thanks to many readers)
Diamond Pet Foods has announced it is withdrawing a limited number of canned products manufactured by American Nutrition. This action is limited to three specific canned products: Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul Kitten Formula 5.5 oz. cans, and Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul Puppy Formula 13 oz. cans, and Diamond Lamb & Rice Formula for Dogs 13 oz. cans.

Diamond Pet Foods has not received any indication of quality or safety issues, including pet illness, with the three withdrawn products. However, because American Nutrition informed the company that these three specific products may include rice protein concentrate, Diamond Pet Foods felt this action was necessary for the protection of its customers and their pets.

Customers with these products should stop feeding them immediately and return them to their retailer for a full refund

This nightmare is never ending....

drawlins27 04-26-2007 05:07 PM

If you go to the website for Chicken Soup it still says that none of their products are involved in the recall. I just sent them a very angry e-mail about why rice protein was not listed as an ingredient. I thought that they were one of the only safe foods left. I am very angry and disappointed in them. I feel like they owe their customers an answer. I just took all of my dogs to the vet to get tested and luckily they are okay. Okay after $400 worth of tests that is. I am one of the ones about to switch to home cooking.

This is just beyond ridiculous. It really makes you think what other foods may have been affected that they're not telling us about...

Correction, I thought my guys were okay. Right after I posted this message I went to check my answering machine and the vet had left a message that after further testing, they had found some abnormalities that could be from their kidneys not functioning correctly. They are going to do even more tests and let me know something tomorrow. So mad right now.

tiggerr36792 04-26-2007 05:52 PM

This is sooooooo rediculious that even my vet is telling everyone to home cook till this thing is figured out completely. Grrrrrrrr it makes it difficult on the poor furkids when we have to keep changin their foods.

TinyBit 04-26-2007 05:53 PM

Just the Nutro canned and their pouches.....they were involved with the 1st round of recalls......but I used to feed my poochies the dry Nutro, but I don't trust them right now at all. TOo many lies.....so I switched off the Nutro. But that was just me.

Daisy23 04-26-2007 06:05 PM

Im get really angry now  I switched from Royal Canin because Jersey (4 months old) was losing weight and they did blood work and she had very low kidney function..i thought i was going to lose her. I put her on Chicken Soup canned and she's gained weight...what the hell am i going to do now?! i dont think there's ANY food left that's safe. I have wet and dry so i'm hoping she will eat the dry now.

what is everyone else that feeds Chicken Soup going to do now?

The Nutro pouches are what caused 2 of my babies to go into Kidney Failure. Thank God they're ok now!

I switched over to Merricks two weeks ago because Lily had stopped eating the Chicken Soup. I just hope it wasn't too late :(

Krystal 04-26-2007 06:38 PM

Has anyone heard anything about Canidae? That is what my 5 month old pup is on and also the one I am getting next week.

Breny 04-26-2007 06:44 PM

I feed CS hard puppy, but now I don't feel comfortable feeding them that. If a canned verson is recalled...I just don't feel comfortable feeding the hard to them.

So let me ask....whats left??? What is left to switch to?????????????????????

What HASN'T been recalled??????????????????????????

Its making me so angry!

As far as I know Canidae is fine, they haven't ever had any recalls with their foods in the past. That was orginally why I switched from Diamond products of any kind months and months ago. Once I found out their Food had been previously recalled and hundreds of cats and dogs had died from their mistake, I had trouble trusting them as a company.

Is Canidae the one for all life stages??? Do they have canned too?

I feel for you girl! That was what happened with the other foods, they start with the canned and then they start recalling the dry.
This whole mess just makes me so angry! Who knows how many countless pets have been harmed by someones stupid mistake...

I feed Jaden and Jewelina Canidae, they are processed in a small factory here in the states and have never had any recalls as to this date. I think if you can't make home made meals for your dogs and are looking for a dry dog food, in my opinion, if your dogs will eat Canidae it's the next best thing.

Yes, all of their dry food is for all life stages, they have three diferent flavors, the original formula, chicken and rice and lamb. Mine will eat any of those three flavors but seem to like the Chicken one the best. They also do make canned food as well to match their dog foods.

You are very welcome! Nature's Variety sells dry and raw. I feed mine the dry but if I ever decide to feed them raw, I will use Nature's Variety.

i just switched Layla to Merricks today... i plan on feeding her mainly the canned food as her main meals.. and she can snack on her Fromms dry.. but i dunno.. i might just homecook.. i'm so stressed out right now since they recalled chicken soup.. ic an't sleep.. and i feel so sick... this is such a mess.. i never fed chicken soup but i thought it was a good food...

MyTrixie143 04-26-2007 11:32 PM

So is it just the canned food that is being recalled?
Mine hardly ever get canned food, I always felt dry food is so much better.
I was giving them Chicken Soup but I switched over a month ago to Canidae.
I just hope Canidae isn't next to get recalled.
This is just ridiculious!! Why is this happening!! I sure hope they correct the problem soon, this is just way too much to deal with!!

Yes, just the canned/wet food, so far :( They say that they manufacture all of their dry foods themselves. I JUST found out about this 5 minutes ago  My husband called me from work and said that he was talking to this woman yesterday (he was loading a new sever in her office) and anyway, she just so happens to be a breeder. Well, they started talking about dogs (haha my hubby is so sweet lol) and he mentioned that we feed Chicken Soup. She said that it was a great food and blah blah blah. Well then today he gets a text from his secretary telling him to call that lady back at her office today. So he figures that it is a sever issue and calls her right away. Well, she was kind enough to let him know that they had recalled the Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lover's Soul (which is exactly what we feed only in the dry formula) in the canned food day. So he called me freaking out and said that he was going to leave work and go buy them some Innova  Because that's just about the only other food that we can get locally that hasn't been recalled yet  And he wants me to stop feeding them the CS IMMEDIATELY - so they HAVE to have SOMETHING to eat in the mean time. Oh this just drives me insane. I can't believe all this crap. I'm scared to buy ANYTHING. You just don't know what is going to be next.

Here is a statement taken straight from the Chicken Soup web site:

However, because American Nutrition informed the company that these three specific products may include rice protein concentrate, Diamond Pet Foods felt this action was necessary for the protection of its customers and their pets.

Customers with these products should stop feeding them immediately and return them to their retailer for a full refund.

Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul dry pet food and dog treats ARE NOT part of any pet food or treat recall. We manufacture all of our own dry pet foods.
