What are you feeding your dogs I just got a puppy and I dont know what to feed her! I am scared with all the recalls.... please help! |
We are all afraid because of this stupid recall. I have a 4 month old puppy and a 3 year old both yorkies. Since the recall I have started feeding them Canidae chicken & rice and Merrick brand dry food. Merrick has a lot of different flavor varieties so I buy a 5 lb bag of one of the flavors and mix it with a 5 lb bag of Canidae. So far so good. I also feed them a canned Merrick food every now and then (like a treat) for one of their meals. That Granny Pot Pie smells good enough to eat myself  |
Well we just changed Gizmo to Natural Balance Duck & Potatoe formula... no wheat , by products or corn meal... and good for allergy stricken dogs and puppies! |
Buddy is on Natural Balance Oganic. No additives, corn, soy, wheat etc. Human grade chicken and veggies and brown rice. Plus I also cook for him. Congratulations with your puppy. |
Are there any problems with Wellness right now? |
I feed Canidae Dry food and Wellness wet food for breakfast. |
Are you guys that feed Natural Balance worried about the food? Just curious cause I might be over reacting. I am not going to feed any "brand" that has been recalled reguardless of what the food is. Wet, dry, or cat food only. I won't feed that brand at all. I am probably being overly cautious  I was just curious on your thoughts of that. |
I quit dry.......I am feeding verve from thehonestkitchen.com If this were to be recalled.........I am going to feed grass :( |
My babies eat Chicken Soup for the Pet Lovers Soul......Puppy for the little tykes and adult for the older boys.:D They all love it! |
I plan to feed home-made food when my puppy gets older. But while he is still little, I will feed Royal Canin, as it was recommended by a lot of people here on yorkietalk. But that doesn't help you, because I know a few products of theirs were recalled. |

I feed Royal Canin also. I don't think it contains wheat or corn, so I think we're safe. I hope it doesn't get recalled for any reason, because it's the only food my dog will eat... and believe me I have tried everything! lol |
Sophie is on Canidae All life stages. As far as I cn tell it does not have any of the gluten in it from anything. |
Merricks grammy pot pie, thanksgiving, and buffalo for dry food i feed them Canidae I use to feed them Caesar's for soft food and Eukanaba/Nutro for dry food NO MORE! :( |
Frankly, I'm scared to death, not just for my yorkies but for us humans as well. There is really no telling what we are ingesting. No kidding, I eat out a lot with my children, upper class restaurants and in the last week we have found hairs in three different eating places. I've started wearing my glasses because otherwise I would not see the problems. Of course, what is going on in the kitchen is another story. Chloe and Lacey, my yorkies, get Royal Canin for yorkies which my vet recommended. It has small bites and is dry. I only give them wet food if I cook the chicken and rice, which is what the vet recommends for icky tummies. It is recommended that puppies get a high quality food with little "filler" and about 22%protein, no more. The quality of food you need usually is not found in a grocery store. Also, instead of doggie treats, try green beans, Cheerios, peeled apples and cheese, only a little though and until older I'd limit to one or two different kinds of treats. Honey nut Cheerios are a big hit with mine. |
My babies are on Canidae all life stages dry and Merriks grammy pot pie canned (a tsp at each feeding) I switched them from the nutro dry. So far, they are liking it ALOT. |
I plan to start home cooking for Gordon sometime this summer. Until then I have switched him to Honest Kitchen . I only use femor bones and he gets fresh fruit , cherrios, yogurt and cheese for snacks. I do give him ML as a supplement, but I plan to do some research and maybe change his supplement. |
Conner is eating Merricks dry (all 4 flavors) mixed with 1/8 cup of boiled hamburg or ground turkey. Sometimes I cook him chicken tenderloins (boneless and skinless) to mix with his food. He is also on Missing Link. Sometimes for breakfast I scramble an egg and add it to his food. I have to mix it up in order to keep him interested in his food. |
All my kids are on Canidae All Life Stages. |
We are feeding Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lovers Soul along with The Missing Link as a supplement. |
Bella is eating Beneful the puppy kind...she was on Eukanuba dry food; and refused to eat for days. I was cooking boiled chicken and rice, untill we went for a play date at a neighbors house and she began eating their dogs food. Now she can't eat enough of the Beneful dog food. :) |
I went to the specialty pet store today and talked to the owner about what to feed my 3. They were on Sensible choice by Royal Canin the natural blend which wasn't recalled but I stopped feeding them just in case. She recommended Innova and California Natural as they have their own plant. I had given them a sample of Solid Gold the last 2 days the Hocken Fluken ? and they all liked it so I bought that and she gave me a sample of the California Natural to try later. I also feed Merricks and Wellness wet. I am going to switch them to Innova wet and keep them on Merricks and cut out the Wellness. I also give them some ground beef, I want to give them a variety so if any of them have recalls I have others to fall back on. |
i feed my babies royal canin yorkshire. |
I feed mine home cooked and Canidae All Life Stages dry. I just finish the last bag of Canidae and he doesn't really show interest in it. I bought a trial bag of Orijen and he loves it. I wil be switching to Orijen with home cooking. |
For breakfast Sam gets cottage cheese and Royal Canin Puppy 33 (not on a recall) For snack he gets carrots. For dinner he gets some more RC mixed with boiled chkn, carrots, and peas. |
Home made food I would like some more info on making your own food.... I have heard Chicken and Brown rice, and scrambled eggs and cottage cheese. Want else to you do? Do you have to do supplements to? |

Lots of people in this forum recommend Missing Link. Personally, I don't feed my boy supplement but I give lots of variety in his homecooked, rice with cooked chicken meat, cooked organ meat once a week, cooked lean ground beef, boiled potato, raw grated carrot, fruits(strawberry, banana, orange without seeds, apple without seeds, melons), yogurt, egg, cottage cheese and a little lactose free milk is a must for my boy. I also do feed him some kibbles (changing fromm Canidae to Orijen). |

Well I just spent the better part of the day with a Purina rep... I will be switching over to Exclusive for all my furbabies..It has Omega 3 & 6 for skin, coat and immune system.. Glucosamine for joints, and it has NO soy or wheat...For my puppies and adults it will be chicken and rice ..:Pawprint:..This pet food can not be bought in a supermarket....Purina is the only pet food company that makes their food here in the USA too..:usastar:.... |

I have never heard of this Purina food. Is it new? |
I feed my Bijou and Holly Innova Evo Red Meat Formula and Jester gets Innova Puppy. I feel more secure knowing that Natura, the maker of Innova does not import any of it's ingredients from other countrys...and the EVO has no grain. It's a high protein, lo carb diet. Both the Innova Puppy and Evo have Omega 6 and Omega 3 Fatty Acids which promotes healthy skin and coats. My dogs love it!! |
