Another Possible Recall ????? I hope not, this is a Newsletter i got this morning, i called my Vet, and he said the makers of Heartguard usualy are pretty good of letting them know if there is a problem, and so far so good, but i thought i copy this letter so everyone can watch out ! It is getting downright scary  From: Dr Andrew Jones Author: Veterinary Secrets Revealed Website: http://www.veterinarysecretsrevealed.com Hello, Claudia Re: Wheat gluten strikes again, and stop the Heartguard. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Hello all. There are new recalled pet foods, with likely additional recalls to come. Natural Balance Pet Foods recalls Venison & Brown Rice Dry Dog Food, Venison & Green Pea Dry Cat Food. Here is a copy of what exists on their website now: NOTICE: We are receiving consumer complaints regarding the Venison & Brown Rice Dry Dog Food, and Venison & Green Pea Dry Cat Foods. We do not know what is wrong with the food at this time, but we have heard that animals are vomiting and experiencing kidney problems. Although the problems seem to be focused on one particular lot, as a precautionary measure, we are pulling all dates of Venison & Brown Rice Dry Dog Food and Venison & Green Pea Dry Cat Food from the shelves. Please discontinue feeding all Venison and Brown Rice Dry Dog Food, and Venison and Green Pea Dry Cat Food. We are working closely with the FDA. We will update this website today, as more information comes available. NO OTHER NATURAL BALANCE PRODUCTS ARE AFFECTED. I have been told that a popular Heartworm preventive medication called Heartguard may be recalled soon as well. These are chewable tablets, and I suspect that they also contain wheat gluten to keep them bound together. If you are using them as a Heartworm Preventive, I suggest that you stop, and switch to another Preventive such as Interceptor. I'll keep you all posted as the news progresses. |
We don't give heartguard because we use revolution, but if that's true, it would be detrimental!! How awful :( |
This is getting to be to much for anyone to handle. Its Crazy, we cant trust anything we eat and what we feed our dogs. I saw on another topic on YT that some olives have just been recalled now too. |
all I can say is WOW! |
 WHAT THE F*** is going on???? I use Intercepter - but this is really getting serious! |
If everyone could take the all natural approach then there would not be a worry all the time. |
Oh wow, that concerns me about heart guard - that's what I use for my 2. |

this is just ridiculous. I wish they would figure out what is going on already. how are all these products being recalled? i doubt the wheat gluten used by heartguard (if that's whats in the pills) is the same used by menu foods, so what else is causing all this? Or are people just becoming so paranoid now that every case of kidney failure is being reported as having to due with something else? are people just looking to place blame on something? Kidney disease is a common disease. I wonder if the percentage of animals with kidney disease has gone up or stayed relatively the same. The numbers might have stayed relatively the same but are just being more publicized now because of the recalls. |

Heartgard - Please Investigate Before Posting I read a thread that says that Heartgard might now be recalled. Someone has been posting letters all over the web from a "Dr. Jones". People need to thoroughly investigate these things before spreading rumors all over the world via their computers!! I looked on the FDA site (and NO I don't always trust them) and looked on various message boards for VALID information about this and found nothing. I also looked at the link that was posted....a holistic site that is trying to get business. PLEASE BE CAREFUL when reading these things. I called and spoke with the Merial company...and YOU can also do the same. BUT...there is no wheat or rice in Heartgard plus. They WILL be posting something about this in the next day or two at: http://heartgard.us.merial.com/home/ PLEASE STOP THE INSANITY. Yes, there are dangerous foods out there and we must be vigilant, but we cannot just take one email as gospel. Our pups lives are at stake. If you ever saw what happens to a dog when it goes through HW treatment, you would NOT mess with little lives by not protecting them from heartworms. Linda |

I just got off the phone with my vet and this is what I was told. They also received an-email regarding HeartGuard. Yes, there is wheat gluten in it, however, the wheat gluten in this product is manufactured in the US from Kentucky actually. It is FINE! Just do not use any product the contains wheat gluten from CANADA at this time. That is where the problem lies. |
WHO did your vet get an email from? Did you ASK? WHY would a company say there is NO wheat gluten in it? Please call your vet and ask..I will bet he got an email from this "Dr. Jones" as well. Merial does NOT RELEASE the inactive ingredients it Heartgard....so how on this earth would your vet know????? I called the company!! Why don't you do the same and ask your vet to call them? The contact information for Merial is: http://www.merial.com/contact_us/index.asp I was told NO wheat gluten from ANYWHERE. Someone else please call..and correct me if I am wrong....which I seriously doubt. |

Please tone it down a bit. Also, using caps signifies screaming or yelling on this board. Thank you kindly, Jessy |

The original poster did not say that this was true, she said she heard about it and to keep our ears open, basically. Goodness... "I hope not, this is a Newsletter i got this morning, i called my Vet, and he said the makers of Heartguard usualy are pretty good of letting them know if there is a problem, and so far so good, but i thought i copy this letter so everyone can watch out !" |

Thanks Jessy, Sometimes people like this get on here and try and get things going. Lady, I will listen to my vet before you. Have some respect will you! Who do I care who he got the e-mail from! It's not my business it's his mail. All I needed to know was, is it safe or not? I got my answer thank you very much. |

I for one, would regret listening to someone who assures me everything is 100% safe and come to find out it really wasn't. An oopps, so sorry does not sit well with me. Everytime $$$$$ is a motivator.........I don't completely trust. I am also not one that wants to be told what I want to hear. I want to hear the truth and unfortunately when it comes down to business it might not always happen. Thank you for posting what your vet had to say Carol. As everyone else gets info...........I'd highly appreciate theirs too :) |
too hilarious for words...this is the last post from me on this topic you all who reacted so strongly do need to educate yourselves a bit i would never post an spam email to any list until i investigated it i did see where people took that as gospel someone said go natural...i will pray for the dogs that are on natural hw preventatives no caps guys...just some more words that will fall on deaf ears post away...i said what i said and will not be coming back to look at this thread i stand by the information given and i stand by what i said about that vet if indeed you did call one. |
I would also like to see updates on what other vet's say about Heartguard or any other product our dogs may be on. Nobody's perfect and maybe as things change one vet might hear before another about any given product. Thanks in advance, |

Glad you found some humor in this............cause I don't. I must be getting old or something  Anyhow, I so glad you are highly educated. I really want to believe that you are not alone though. |
RMKC, I for one thank you very much for your info. Thats why i come here so I can learn from everyone. |

RMKC - way to go   ...I know you have everyones best interest in mind and this is so serious we can't take any chances. The food recall is HUGE. This has never happenend... and rumor or not - I want to hear ALL possibilities. Everyone has a right to be scared because this whole thing IS scary. |
Thanks, thats all i wanted to achieve, just a heads up, not to spread rumors, just the possibilities, even if it is just a spam newsletter that i have been getting for over a yr. No one has to agree with him, as i know he is trying to sell a Product. But have read some interesting stuff, but that is my opinion ! |
I called my Vet.. they immediately contacted their representative of Heartgard!!! The representative said Heartgard is Fine, she will be posting this soon on their website, but apparently an incorrect rumor was started. |
