Iams - I am appaulled! I am completely appaulled by what I learned here about the Iams Company. I just brought my (9 wk old) baby home one week ago tonight and switched him to Iams believing that they were a upstanding pet food company, especially as they were recommended by the pet supplies store and approved by my vet! Tomorrow I will be returning the bag of food to the store and hopefully will be able to find some other approved brand on the list that I found on a thread earlier this afternoon. Does anyone have a specific preference that they think I should try? I have decide to skip Royal Canin because alot of you say that it makes the babies itch. My baby does scratch alot, but the vet said he was flea free - maybe it was the Iams food! Very disappointed Iams! :thumbdown |

We like nutro. Our babies are nice and healthy with shiny coats and thats what they eat. I have heard Iams isnt very good and my parents buy their crap and I was going to advis against it but I couldnt rememebr why IAMS was bad(BAD Memory). So would you mind telling us whats wrong with the IAMs company? |
It's all explained in the first post. |

I somehow didnt see the begining of this thread. Thanks for giving the website. I knew the company did bad things but WOW. I will imediatley advice anyone I know using the crap. :thumbdown  |
Stewie is eating mostly Nutro with some Eukanuba mixed in. He was on Iams from his breeder, but I slowly switched to Euk when I brought him home. Then, I switched to Nutro with a bit of Euk. I am not kidding when I say that Stewie LIVES for Eukanuba. He will pick around the Nutro as much as possible. Its so annoying to me because I know he likes it, but I want to get him off of it. I feel badly because he likes it so much. |
When Oreo was on Purina.. and i was switching him to Innova.. he'd literally pick out the little purina kibble and leave the innova alone.. lol.. it's cute! but was frustrating.. but i just wet the food a little and he just ate it fine.. and then i just started putting more innova.. until everything was innova.. :D |
What's a better brand that's good for the babies? Wow!! I have had dogs for years ( 2 Shelties, and an Eskie ) and always fed them Iams as they have always been such healthy animals with gorgeous coats. The vet recommended it with my first dog and I've never questioned it! Every vet I've gone to since agrees... So what should I switch to? I see recommendations for innova and nutro. Can I get them anywhere that dog food is sold? Pet Smart or grocery store? Years ago I had to buy Iams from the vet, but now I just grab it at the grocery store and don't pay attention to the other brands. Also, my flealess little yorkie is a scratcher, and I was wondering if it was the food. Any recommendations for the itchy skin? I've ordered Peace & Kindness ( and other products ) from Chris Systems which I read about on this site. Can't wait to try them. Especially the Ice on Ice for all my babies! |
i do really recommend Innova EVO, which is great for small breeds, especially puppies. They are smaller kibble than the regular Innova which i too also love :D You cannot find this at Petco or PetSmart. you can go on their website and find a distributor near you and your area www.naturapet.com |
This is a great thread - along the way of stopping mills and pet stores ...the more people who jump in and talk about the live testing of animals the better chance the companies will stop it. 4 years ago when I became aware of their policies - the publicity wasn't as big as it is now - Keep talking and encouraging people to not buy their products and you CAN help stop live testing of animals. |
Well as you can see I am trying ;) |
I didn't see the begining of the thread either, OMG I just bought a bag of Iams it's going right back to the store. Thanks for the suggestions on food I think I will go with nutro, I'll be looking into it more today. What would I do without YorkieTalk!! |

pissed! I feel decieved, if I had any idea ahead of time I would have NEVER purchased that brand of dog food. I read out some of the explicit content of what has been done to animals and their proof. It's an outrage and we're totally disgusted and it's no wonder who the parent company is. It's so hard to do the right thing these days, Label reading investigating and education for the public is a necessity. |
I returned the bag of Iams that I had yesterday. I went to three stores looking for Innova, Natural Balance or Nutro. But either the stores ran out or the brand didn't carry a puppy line. And since Deegan is still very young (10 wks) I want him on puppy food still. I live in Canda and was at one of our stores called Pet Valu. They have their own brand of holistic food called Performatrin Ultra. Seems like a very good food, first ingredient is Chicken, then chicken meal Whole brown rice, whole barley, whole rice, oatmeal, whole ground rye.... etc. It also has blueberries, cranberries, and apples ....etc. It seems like a good food to me but I am still learning. Deegan seems to prefer it to his Iams that I was feeding him. Heleaves the Iams in the bowl ans eats the new stuff. If anyone has heard of this or tried it please let me know what you think. Thanks! :animal-sm |
I heavne't heard of it...BUT...if you look at the ingredient list as you did and then go and compare it to a similar food (Innova , Wellness, or Solid Gold, Natural Balance) etc..you can maybe get an udea...It sounds good and healthy to me |
