Dr. Karen Becker has a book called "Dr. Becker's Real Food for Dogs and Cats." I have recently discovered her from Mercola's Healthy Pets' website and she is a supporter of a species appropriate diet. I have ordered her book which is full of recipes. I actually haven't read it yet, but I am wanting to try feeding Otis some raw foods. HERE IS MY QUESTION: I am feeding Orijen, and have been very pleased with the quality of this food. Is it OK to supplement an occasional raw food (to be given let's say once a week as a special treat) in addition to feeding Orijen as his main source of protein? |

lots of good recipes it looks like. But im having a problem finding ones that would fit into my house. Pup is grain free. Due to childs allergies life threatening allergies pup has ingests no nuts or fish products. I dont know where else to look. Im getting frustrated. :-/ Sorry to whine.. Couldnt help myself any longer. Ill go to the corner now. |
upset stomach yorkie baby Bonnie is 4 months and weights about 4 pounds. She sleeps a lot and the last two days she has had an upset stomach. Is there anything I can give her to make her feel better soon. She goes to the vet next week for her last puppy shots. I want to wait it out and see if any of you have any suggestions for me. She is not playful with her playmate like normal. She just wants to be with me. Oh the reason I have not posted but the one post is that we have been traveling. Bonnie stayed with good friend so I think she was well taken care while we were gone. |
Santa paws Serve these yummy Yuletide goodies with "Beg" nog. 2 1/4 cups whole wheat flour 1/3 cup pecans 1 cup oatmeal 1/2 cup dried fruit 3/4 cup milk 4 tbsp. margarine 1 egg Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Combine dry ingredients and gradually add milk, margarine, and egg. Knead until a dough is formed. Roll dough to 1/4" thickness. Cut with cookie cutter and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 45 minutes. Makes 1 1/2 dozen. |
Lazy Bones Carob Balls This recipe is from Three Dog Bakery. 1 cup carob powder 1 cup skim milk 2 tbsp. honey 1 tsp vanilla 3 cups bran flakes cereal In large bowl, combine carob , milk, honey and vanilla Add bran flakes and mix thoroughly Break off golf ball size pieces and form into balls Place in sealed container and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving Store remaining in airtight container in refrigerator MAKES 20 |
The Most Versatile Dog Treats Ever: INGREDIENTS: 2 c. Brown Rice Flour (the original recipe called for wheat flour, but I prefer rice flour). 2 4oz jars of puree baby food in any flavor you like (just make sure there's no onion or onion powder in it!) NOTES: -Water may be necessary to get this dough to the right consistency -In addition to the baby food, you can add shredded carrots, parsley, peanut butter...virtually anything to enhance the taste DIRECTIONS: 1. Preheat oven to 350° F. 2. Mix ingredients to form a stiff dough. If necessary, add extra flour or water as needed. 3. On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to about a 1/4 inch thick. Use cookie cutters to cut into desired shape or a pizza cutter to make cubes. 4. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and place treats about 1/2 inch apart. Bake for 20 - 25 minutes. Allow to cool completely before storing in a paper bag (storing in an air-tight container will make them soft, but they're still edible). |

Milk is mentioned in the recent posts and I'm wondering if you could substitute almond milk instead~? I don't drink milk. |

A little canned pure pumpkin can help with tummy upset. Don't do the puppy shots unless she is 100% healthy. If she sleeps alot and isn't active, it is probably best to bring her to see a vet. |
