i purposely looked for a dog WITHOUT a docked tail. tails show emotion, sadness happiness etc its now illegal in England to dock any dogs tails. from April the 6th. i think its just an unessecary procedure. good luck with whatever you decide |

I personally prefer the docked tail look. I would also look for a dog with the dew claws removed. I've had problems with dew claws before and it's just easier to have the issue handled while they're young. Cali has her dew claws and they get caught on the carpet all the time -- poor little baby YELPS in pain. :( |
being that the yorkie standards here in the US is having it docked...i would personally docked it...unless you have buyers lined up that does not want it docked...good luck! |
Personally I Would Not Dock The Tail If I Had The Choice... Harvey Has His Waggy Tail And It Really Shows His Emotions. My Last Dog Didnt Have A Tail But Then That Was 15 Years Ago - Over Here Tails Are Left Alone Now. Harvey Has His Dew Claws Also And I Just Keep Them Trimmed Every Few Weeks After He Has Had A Bath. It Is A Difficult Decision To Make As I Dont Like To Think Of Inflicting Any Pain On An Animal Whatsoever. Even Though It Is Said To Be Minimal - But That Is Just My Opinion..... |
either way I'd dock if you wanted to be up to the standard , But I do have to agree I feel sorry for the little guys you know that has to hurt .. But if they are to love as a pet and nothing more I wouldnt dock but that is your dicission Hope I helped:) |
I believe that the original reason for docking the tails of some dogs had to do with the nature of the "job" they were given. I would imagine that in the case of a yorkie who would go into small places to chase out and kill rats, and long feathery tail might be a problem. Some countries are banning the docking of tails (England and New Zealand I think) because since the dogs are no longer used for their "jobs" the docking is now deemed unnecessary, and in the opinion of some...cruel. I personally would prefer a yorkie who was as close to the standard as possible...I love Tia's nubbin! Super cute when it really gets going! |

Well i have 1 thats done and 1 thats not. As its illegal here now to dock any dogs tail its saved me having to make that decision with my new 5 week old litter, Thank God. Good luck whatever you decide. But I am personally glad that they have banned it here. |
