Change in indoor pee habits? Can accidents in the house from a housetrained dog indicate a health issue? Jack, relatively recently, has taken a big step backward in his housetraining issues. When we got him a year ago at age 10, he often peed in the house when we were gone. But we worked with him and got him to go outside only. Well, in the last month we've come home to accidents in multiple spots regularly. Last night, we resorted to closing off the kitchen when we were gone for 4 hours. We left a pee pad (which to my knowledge he's never used) and he used it. But he also got stressed out and chewed on his bed and got into some plastic tupperware. He's still OK when we're home, and he alerts us when he needs to go. Think I should see the vet about this? |
It could definitely be a sign of a urinary tract infection |

Poor little Jack ... hope it's nothing serious. Please let us know? Give him hugs & kisses from Toto! ;) |
It could be hes just regressing in potty training but you dont know unless you have them checked. With UTIs they also sometimes have blood in the urine |
Probable marking to keep the moose away, LOL just kidding. Chachi has got a good idea, thats the only time I have seen dogs pee all over like that. |
Always a good idea to check with the vet. At his age, it is a good idea to run a blood panel and make sure things are ok. Hoping Jack is A O K. And Jack, you don't be afraid of those mean looking mooses, he got nothing on you!!! :) |
Cali peed on my bed awhile ago and had never done that. SHe was also licking down there so I took in a urine sample and she had an infection. Now Maya my 10 year old pom who could hold it for 12 hours before, has started to ask to go out every 4 hours, even having to get up during the night. SHe was recently but on thyroid meds so that may be why. I also have yearly blood work done on her and think I will go to 2 times a year. This way you can detect kindey and liver problems early. Hopefully meds will fix him right up. |

Oh Mike! I hope Jack is going to be ok...I would call the vet...sounds like something could be going on with poor ole Jack! Let us know how he makes out. |
Thanks, everybody, I see no blood in his urine, so maybe he's just regressing in the cold. I didn't know he knew how to use pee pads, and he does, so maybe that's how he spent his first 10 years. |
I hope everything is ok then. |
Hi Mike! just checking in to see how Jack is doing today...did you have a chance to bring him to the vets? |

The good news is, I discovered he knows how to use pee pads. I didn't even have to train him on them. |

Seriously, I would still get him checked out, as I know you will. Please update us! Hang in there, Jack, there's nothing "sissy" about using a wee wee pad! |
Jazzie did that recently too.. She started to wet herself when she would nap or rest. After having her urine checked she had crystals in her urine. I was worried that it was related to her age. It cleared up on it's own and she is now back to herself. I hope Jack's issues is not serious - I agree with the others, he's keeping the moose out by marking his territory! |
