| flea/tick/heartworm What products do you use for your dogs? Ticks are really bad in this area and a lot carry lymes, so I don't want something that will kill them after they've bitten like frontline, but to prevent them from even wanting to get on my dogs, as well as be safe and easy to apply. What has worked/hasn't worked for you? What brand of heartworm medication do you give your dogs?

| Hi there! Am so glad you posted this! Esp b/c i've been curious to know what other yorkie owners use. I just took my baby to the vet and she highly recommended Sentinel. From what I understand it's a pill that is administered 1/month. I haven't made a decision yet though. I haven't done all my research but everytime I hear Frontline i get the willies. Mostly because I met a friend recently who thinks his dog (not a yorkie) died b/c of Frontline and something in the ingredients. I'm not sure how true this is and if his deduction is accurate but it makes me cautious. Hopefully some senior yorkie talkers can weigh in! |

I was just looking at Sentenial, Interceptor, and also Revolution. Revolution apparently has an all in one heartworm/flea/tick preventative... Revolution: Flea Control Medicine For Cats & Dogs - 1800PetMeds. I'm anxious to see what others use and say.

| Jackson already had lymes last year (and was treated for it) so I'd like to keep him lymes-free here on out. I tested him in January and he came up negative, yay! I did purchase Frontline for the winter since ticks are not as relevant in the winter so the Frontline worked for us for these past few months. We use Iverhart Plus pill for heartworm which has worked great. I am just now looking into another options for flea/tick though with spring heading our way. K9 Advantix worked REALLY well for us last year... it also repels mosquitoes which is nice, and I believe it's supposed to prevent the tick from even latching on, whereas Frontline doesn't, like you said. The K9 Advantix apparently has a questionable ingredient in it that is considered not very safe though but it was the only thing that worked for us in the summer. I am highly interested in the all-in-one type pills so will be curious to hear peoples opinions on Revolution, Comfortis, etc. Just realized Revolution is topical as well... I hate putting that stuff on his hair, it's sooo nasty and gross.

I too have used K9 Advantix with amazing luck. Nothing else seems to work for us. Ticks are terrible here! But I didn't know there was a questionable ingredient. I have used Sentinel for heartworm. It is also suppose to help with the flea population. I have not had any problems with it.

| 1-800-petmeds has a K9 Advantix II. Is there another version and what is the difference? I looked at K9 Advantix, but wasn't sure. Glad to hear a few others perspectives on it.
