Microchipping Does anyone have their Yorkie Microchipped? They are having a Clinic here near where I live and they are doing them for 15.99. I have heard a little about this, but not sure if it is a good idea. I would love to hear some feed back on this!! |
Yup Lucy is done and its a real piece of mind. We always keep a close eye on her but if she got lost or stolen and sold on, a quick scan would say she belonged to us. I would definately go for it |
Pebbles is also microchipped! I feel confident in case of lost that maybe there is some hope of getting her back. I think it is a good idea. |
Zsa Zsa have a microchip . One day , she escaped from the backyard . 3 days later we have received a phone call from a vet clinic , telling us , they have found her . The vet have had my name etc from the microchip informations center . |
I have everyone of mine microchipped. And the cat too. I don't put the tag on their color though. I have their I.D. tags on them because if someone is honest then are going to use the information on the I.D. The microchip is in case their colors get take off (would have the chip tag then anyways) in hopes that someone honest takes them somewhere to be scanned or eventually they will get lose again and eventually returned to me. That is a good price for them also. Just remember, you have to send in the national registration for to get them in the national database. I think it is $25 or $30 and $45 if you have up to 8 that are registered. Always update your information also. |
My Tini is also microchipped. My vet recommended that we do it at the same time she was spayed. This is because the needle is a little bit big. It only takes a second, but the chip is about the size of a grain of rice and has to be able to pass through the needle. Once it was in she is fine! I am glad to have the piece of mind. 15.99 sounds like a really good deal. I had to pay 35, so if the 15.99 includes the registration you definately should look into going that route. Probably it will hurt you more to see it done than it will hurt your furbaby! |
All my dogs have been microchipped since they started the practise - they have recently improved the design of the chip so now they shouldn't move. |
I really want to get my 2 dogs done but it is $70 each... so for 15.99 I'd jump! |
Have you checked the local shelters. My vet charges $45 so I get them done at the shelter for $22 each. |
Both of my dogs are microchipped.. It's a cheap way to add another layer of precaution should they ever get lost. All the vet clinics and shelters around here have the chip scanner so I know that at least if they get lost here it is possible they will scan for their chip. I've also considered getting them tattooed too just in case. |
I think that microchipping is a great idea. Thing is, how many vets or clinic actually have the scanning machines? I'd be afraid that after spending $50 to have your dog microchipped and it gets stolen or lost and someone takes it to the vet, they won't think to get it scanned. |
What about if you move...is there a way to update your information? |
Yes , you have to call the information center and give them your new address |

I didn't make it to the clinic this weekend, but I called the lady and she said that she would come to my house and do it. Does that sound good to anyone? I mean to me that doesn't sound safe. |
Yes , it sound alright . I am doing all the microchipping at my home and I have the scanner . You can ask her if she have a scanner to read it . you'll just have to write the number of the microchip . P.S. you don't have to buy a scanner . |
Gypsy Rose and Gizzie Chavi are both microchipped for two reasons:- a. So that if they get lost they will hopefully be returned b. It was mandatory under the European Pet Passport Scheme No problem at all having them done (the vet did both ours). $15.99 is an excellent price! We paid £20 per dog. (not sure of the rate of exchange without checking!) Ana xx :aimeeyork |
I have mine chipped it doesnt hurt them i think its a good ideal. tatto seems like that would be harder on them ? |
Archie's been micro-chipped. Gypsy Rose, if I'm not mistaken, if I was to ever take Archie to Ireland (where my boyfriend is from), he would have to be micro-chipped even though he's from America. but important...make sure that you send the registration in! without it, microchipping is useless. |
i want to get my babies microchipped, but i have 3 so that'll be a heck of a lot of $$$.. and not everything where i live is cheap. although my doggies stay in my room during the day behind a door barrier and with someone always watching, i still just want to be safe! :p |
Bella came microchipped from the breeder. I gave the new vet the microchip number as well. |
Lost Yorkie Yes, yes, yes. Get a chip. One day we were on our way to the store when we saw a yorkie running down the sidewalk with his head up high and looking confused. It was a busy arterial. We stopped and had quite a bit of difficulty catching him. He was frightened and dirty, needing combing. We could not find any identification so we took him to the local animal shelter. We told them we would come back to get him if no one called to claim him. It so happens that the owners called just a couple of hours before his time was up. If someone does not claim a lost dog it can be euthanized or adopted out. We were relieved to hear the news. If this lost dog had been microchipped his owners would have been called immediately by the shelter. If our little Wiggle Wolf ever got lost we would probably sell our house to get him back. It is like loosing a child. |
Lily came from the breeder microchipped. It makes me feel better knowing she is. |
Both of our babies are microchipped because it covers a far wider area than a tattoo. A tattoo only covers your city and sometimes provice/state, but a microchip is good for all of north america and a large part of Europe too. Because we travel so much, this was the best choice for us. |
Finnigen is microchipped My breeder had it done before I brought him home. She recorded the number for me with all his immunization info. And when I took him for his first check up/second shots the vet checked it and made note of the number in his chart. I was reading somewhere that we (Canada) have one of the best databases for pets. That made me feel good. And I think it's cool... can't wait until they come up with gps technology for these microchips (what do I know they probably already have that) |
Both of mine are done my Noah and my Springer William |
I hope the rules as to microchipping are different to what they are here in the UK. I was gonna get buddy microchipped then we had a story over here about a family that had lost their cat that had been chipped, a year later they were told it had been found but they couldnt tell them where it was cos they would be breaking data protection and privacy laws????? anyway the people that had found it didnt want to give it back cos they have had it for a year, so they are now all fighting over who gets to keep the cat. Put me off getting Buddy chipped, whats the point if they cant tell you where your pet is??? crazy huh!!!! Also we've had over here some cases where people have stolen a pet and tried to cut the chip out the animal themselves which is really awful!!! so i'm still deciding if its worth it or not  |
I have put off the microchip due to some info I found regarding site cancers, I wanted to wait to see if I could find anymore info on it. Have any of you heard about this? |
Don't do it to them while they are awake I have been wanting to MicroChip Daisy, Pochi and Choppi and when I took Dsisy in for her shots a couple of weeks ago I figured that would be a good time to do it and the Vet said for dogs her size, she usually would do it when they are asleep (ie if they are being spayed/neutered) since the needle was big. Well I saw the needle and almost said forget it but instead I held Daisy down...boy I wished she was asleep. Although she only yelped for maybe 10 secs it seemed like forever and it looked so painful. You could see the crescent shaped mark on her back and it bled a little from the needle. I felt so bad and held her and she didn't want to let me go. :( Well seeing the pain in her eyes, I promised myself I'd wouldn't have Pochi or Choppi go through that so a last week I took Pochi in to get his teeth cleaned and since he would be asleep, I thought it would be a perfect time to get him chipped! I'll get Choppi done too when I get his front dewclaws removed (breeder only got his back legs done). Neither Pochi or Daisy seem to have any problems with the chip. I have chosen not to have them wear the ID Tag from the Avid MicroChip instead I have their dog tags to say: <Dog's Name> $$ Reward $$ phone number AVID MicroChipped That way if they are found (god forbid) they will know to check them. |
