Saving Money on Frontline PLUS?? HAs anyone heard of dosing the medication like this? I found this on another website.....Please tell me what you think before I try this Quote:
|
I have heard of buying for a larger breed and dividing it on a smaller. |
How long can you keep the opened package? I guess 1 large vial would give our babies 6 doses...Is there no degredation/reduced potency once opened? |
My vet is the one who told me to do that same thing to save money. He said it would the same as the smaller doses only cheaper this way. |
Our vet told us from the very beginning that we could share the smallest dog size (0-22 lbs) between our girls each month. But he did not mention saving any of that for another month. We were excited to but just one per month and not two!! |
1 Attachment(s) My vet didn't tell me about it but I figured if 1 vial was for a dog up to 22lbs. I could divide it and do both. I feel alot better dividing it thaqn putting enough for a 22lb dog on my 7lb baby. So I just use the 1 vial. Fins up |

I divide one small one between my two dogs. |
When we first got Little Bit, the vet told us just to use 1/2 the vial the first month and then use the second 1/2 the second month. She just told us to store it in a ziplock bag. Silly me, though, I thought it was because she was so young. I guess I could just keep doing it that way though, since Little Bit is still less than 3# at 7 months. Did they give you what the difference in strength was for cats? It surprises me that the cat solution is stronger. I thought that cats were usually more sensitive to poisons than dogs.:) |
I don't use frontline but their flea medicine is split up. Someone on here suggested this as a way to save money. So I buy one tube from my vet and it treats 4 of my furbabies. The vet gave me a syringe which is marked that tells me how much to give each of them. It has saved me alot of money. Instead of paying for 6 tubes of flea medicine I pay for one or two that will treat them all. If I got it individually, it would cost me about $72 for all the flea medicine, but this way I only pay $12. I get the revolution, it has heart worm medicine in it also, so I save even more money. I am so glad someone suggested this, because otherwise, I would have never thought of doing this!! |
Advantage Does anyone know if you can do this with advantage as well. I noticed that the cat & dog formulas are the same formula with two active ingredients but one of those is a little stronger in the cat formula than the dog. Still wondering why that is, could it be that cats clean themselves so much they think they will wash it off? I'm just grasping at straws- I really have no idea?? |
I've been doing this for years and have saved a TON of money. The opened vial will last at least a month, but not sure after that. I do the same with heartworm pills. |

Save even More Money! We use revolution, it is a topical like frontline but treats fleas, heartworms, earmites, mange. Your vet probably sells it but I get mine at deadfleaz.com really cheap. It is great It protects from all these things, so easy to use, no pills, it works, its safe-I love it. You will save a bundle by using that site, no prescription needed, they also sell frontline & other stuff to. But buying the one revolution instead of FL & HW tabs is much better. |
I do the same thing. I use the revolution and split it. It is so much easier and even more cheaper. Plus I don't have to fight with to take a pill since it is topical and it is included!!!  |
I use K9 Advantix on mine. I buy a large breed tube and put it in a vial and I also have a marked syringe. I only buy one tube and it's good for 10 applications which is a 5 month supply for me. One tube cost me about $13. I am saving lots of $$$$$$$ and it has worked for me. I also called K9 Advantix and they did confirm that it is the same ingredients in every tube just smaller or bigger portions for different size dogs. |
revolution Ok, I never thought of doing this before. I use revolution on my two dogs. One dog is 11 lbs, the other is 7 pounds, both are Yorkies. I usually by for dogs 5.1-10 lbs in weight (0.25 ml) for the small dog and 10.1-20 lbs in weight (0.50ml) for the bigger dog. Couldn't I somehow use the bigger dose for both dogs? Does anyone know how much each one would get from the larger tube? Periwinkle |

I have a plastic little vial with a cap which stays shut at all times. I open the tube and pour it into the vial which allows me to reuse it every month since its really a 10 month supply for one dog. I have a 1 ML syringe and fill it up to the .4 line. This dose is good for dogs 1-10 lbs. This saves me loads of money. I also have had no problems with doing it this way. |

Oh and one more thing...make sure you mark the syringe with a Sharpie on the .4 line. If you don't all the numbers on the syringe will fade. |

I buy the smallest size frontline (I think its up to 22lbs) and spilt one vial for 2 yorkies |
Want a Vial w/lid? Its actually a baby medicine syringe. But you wont find it at most stores w/a lid. Check at family dollar, dollar general, dollar tree they might have it. I found some at my local fleamarket for about 3 or 4 bucks, I was happy to pay it since I looked everywhere.I'll pick some up if you'll pay me back +shipping. I have 3 or so for medicines, etc. The are handy. |

becareful giving to your cat please check with your vet before using your dogs meds on your cat, my husband several years ago accidently put our dogs frontline on the cat and she went into seziures, I took her to the vet and she had to stay overnight hooked up to fluids/meds. we didn't think she was going to make it. she recovered, but it was a terrible experience. |
I was thinking more for other meds, like nemex. I will store it in the fidge til I can get each dog chased down, lol. It use to leak out so I was really happy to find one with a lid & they are be nice for pets on daily meds for travel etc. I'm to lazy & impatient to split frontline up, I just buy the right size revolution saves me a bundle & takes care of heartworms to.So did you ever say where we can find these acceptable vials for frontline for those who need one;) Quote:
