I would for my own piece of mind get a blood profile done. You don't need a CBC I am sure but a blood profile is not expensive, I think they run about 35 bucks. |

I got charged 375 for my cosmo. It was really 400 but they gave me money back cause I returned the collar. |
my aunt had her yorkie spayed about a month ago and they quoted her at $800 and she said that she wasn't willing to pay more than $300 so she started crossing out things that were unnecessary (i'm not sure which ones) and then the day of the surgery they called and left her a message saying that they would advise her to do all the things she crossed out. when she went to pick up her yorkie, they charged her over $800 for the whole surgery! she tried arguing with them saying that she had crossed out the unneccesary procedures and they never obtained her permission prior to performing those procedure but they said they left her a message and she didn't call back to contest so she ended up paying the entire amount. In that case, I would have thought 500 was a deal but reading these posts, she should have shopped around. |

Oh my gosh....I just called my vet to make an appointment for Missy, my Maltese, to be spayed. It will cost $120 plus $40.00 for extraction of teeth. Now I feel I'm getting a bargain compared to what everyone else is paying.... and that includes everything you mentioned except pain med, which is $12. The price you mentioned is RIDICULOUS!! |
ACKKKKKKKKKKK I just had one dog neutered and some teeth done for $165 including getting pain meds. This was at the vets. I also took 2 more to the humane league and they did them for $35 including everything (NO TEETH DONE) and the payment was OPTIONAL if you said you had no money it was FREE.... I of course PAID because JEESH it was a bargain |
Great price at your vets, but even better at the humane league? Do you feel your babies got the same good treatment as at the vets? Did you have to leave them overnight at the humane league?: |
My vet (head of the veterinarian medical association of a large city) would only charge about $150.00 to 175.00 for everything and you wouldn't have to cross anything off the list. Here microchips are only $25.00 and teeth extractions are only $8.00. Check around, prices vary from geographic location, but they also vary from vet to vet. Just make sure your quote includes the iso or sevoflurane anesthesia and the preop bloodwork and followup care and pain meds for the spay and the microchip and extractions. |
Wow! That is extremely excessive in my opinion!!!!!!! Mine was $120 for the actual spay (includes anesthesia), $60 for pre-anesthetic blood work, and $10 for post-op pain meds. Free to remove sutures after 7-10 days. That was it. About $200 total. |
I just paid a total of $900 for pre-op bloodwork, teeth cleaning and 14 tooth extractions. :( I was floored, but it had to be done...Also I live in California and it seems everything costs so much more here. |
Yikes, I feel for you Californians with your outrageous vet bills and real estate prices - I hope your wages are higher to compensate! |
Try calling your local SPCA or Humane Society. I know out by me I can buy spay/neuter coupons from them. I like last time I was there it was $50 for cats and $60 for dogs. You pay the SPCA for the spaying coupon and then you can take it to your own vet and everything is already paided for, the procedure, anesthesia, and follow-up. I has always worked well for me and my friends. I never hurts to call. |
I just pulled up Bailey\'s Vet bill to see what I paid and it was $207.21. Her surgery was done last Thanksgiving Weekend and included: bloodwork, pain medication, ovariohysterectomy, microchipping, extract decidious teeth and to remove a small mass on her head. I know it was alot of procedures at one time, I just didn\'t want to put her under more then once if I didn\'t have to. She was 3 lbs at the time and I was so worried but she was back to her energetic self in 2 days. Michele & Bailey |
