Wet food or dry food? Hi, I am just wondering if it matters if you feed your yorkie wet or dry food. Bella is 5 months now and I had been feeding her the dry Eukanuba Small Breed food but I decided to try giving her the Cesar Puppy wet food because the first day I brought her home the breeder gave me a little container of it and Bella loved it. Anyway, Bella never did eat much of the dry food alone...just little bits at a time but with the wet food, she just loves it! The Cesar Puppy food is approved by the AAFCO and is nutritionally balanced so I assume it's just as good as the Eukanuba food. So, does it matter if you give them wet or dry? I read somewhere that you should give them dry food to keep their teeth clean. Should I continue maybe mixing dry with wet or should yorkies just eat dry food? Any advice is appreciated! I hope wet food is just as good because she loves it! |
They really need the hard food for their teeth. I have 2 yorkies. I free feed the hard food and give them 1/2 a tin each of Lil Caesar food in the morning. They arent getting a meal out of the Lil Caesar it is more like a snack for them. |
I coat my furbabies dry Innova kibble with Merrick wet food . . .this makes it more flavorful for them so they always finish up their food. |

Mine only get dry food. I guess it's just a preference thing. |
i use dry food... for the teeth. Caesars is not very high quality food... so like the other person on here said.. it's more for a treat... don't make a meal out of it... .layla LOVES wet food... she gets it on special occasions... and i feed her Blue Buffalo, so i only give her Blue Bufflo wet food... so not to give her a tummy ache... but the dry is definitly better for their teeth.. which tend to be a problem in small breeds |
I give my girl dry food and she likes it. I do too because I feel it’s better for her teeth. I still give her the canned stuff though, as a treat. |

I just can't go the can stuff, it's so gross. I'm sure they would love it. But, I haven't gotten any complaints so far. I feed mine only Lamb & Rice with no corn. |
I feed my pup dry food cause she is teething and she likes to crunch on stuff lol |
I feed mine dry food only (Merricks), for their teeth, but also because it's less messy. The hair around their mouth stays much cleaner. :aimeeyork |
Shylah won't eat just the dry food, so I have putting a little of Nutro canned with her Nutro dry and then she eats the dry too. I have to do the same for Starsky to be fair! He used to only eat dry. I only give them about 2 tablespoons of moist and a small handful of dry. I don't even have to mix them either. |
My breeder has me feed dry food because the teeth stay nicer. |
I thought canned food was gross too until I bought the Merrick. It's not gross at all. I feed Canidae dry and sometimes Merrick canned. I also brush Loki's teeth. Eukanuba and Cesar's are not good foods. I don't know what the AAFCO is but they apparently don't know much about dog food. Try Canidae, Innova, Wellness, Solid Gold, California Natural, Merrick.... |
tara is a lazy little baby... i have to smash the kibble up into smaller pieces and mix it with wet food... or else she wont eat.... yet she is smart... usually she will choose the wet food over the dry food.... and i notice she doesn't like to chew on it... maybe the kibble its a little hard for her.... she would just eat everything up without chewing.... tht's y i have to smash it into smaller pieces i'm feeding her on nutro lamb n rice mix with science plan can food, she is currently 11 weeks... very picky over her foods..... :( |
I free feed Piccolo dry Canidae but in the morning I put a little bit of yogurt mixed with Missing Link Plus. |
I feed my four dogs all dry but different brands. They will eat anything so I stick with dry. However, two are on dry prescription diets. One will more then likely get back on a dog food with no beet pulp, corn, wheat, potato, chicken, etc. eventually. We had him tested for food allergies. The other has chronic colitis and will always be on a special prescription diet. Jessica |
