Savannah eats cut up chicken breast mixed with rice and mixed veggies with the occasional fingertip-ful of nutrical just to make sure she gets all her vitamins. She also gets organic puppy treats. We refuse to feed her dog food after finding out what's in it. |

Kirkland Super Premium I posted a question earlier asking if anyone used the premium from Costco. I also googled it and found the diamond product website. I sent them an email asking for an ingredient list. The response if from the same customer service representative as the email I sent off yesterday about Chickensoup for the pupply lover's soul. And the ingredient list looks good to me. . .And about 1/2 to 1/3 the price. Ingredients Chicken, chicken meal, whole grain brown rice, cracked pearled barley, egg product, beet pulp, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols and Vitamin E), potatoes, fishmeal, flaxseed, natural flavor, brewers dried yeast, millet, potassium chloride, salt, choline chloride, carrots, peas, kelp, apples, dried skim milk, cranberry powder, salmon oil (a source of DHA), rosemary extract, parsley flake, dried chicory root, vitamin E supplement, iron proteinate, zinc proteinate, copper proteinate, ferrous sulfate, zinc sulfate, copper sulfate, potassium iodide, thiamine mononitrate, manganese roteinate, manganous oxide, ascorbic acid, vitamin A supplement, biotin, calcium antothenate, manganese sulfate, sodium selenite, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), vitamin B12 supplement, riboflavin, vitamin D supplement, folic acid. |
The only thing I remember about the Diamond food sold at Costco was that there was a recall on the food in December 2005. However, I see so many people buying the food for their dogs when I'm in the store so I'm sure it's fine. I just received Wysong food today and I'm going to give it a try. I'm sure my dog will run from it as he's so used to the Life's Abundance right now. And he's loving the Merrick wet food, the Smothered Comfort. First time I ever saw him lap up wet food so quickly, other than Cesar which I won't use anymore. I usually free food him with wet food in the evening. I guess things may change after his surgery. |
And Wysong did not go well today either. He got sick but I think he may have been overfed. One more time and then I'm done with that food too. |
There isn't anything in Life's Abundance to cause such an illness in your dogs. I have been feeding it for over a year to both my dogs and I know personally over 100 other pet owners who are feeding Life's Abundance with absolutely no problems. I would be concerned about your dog. Diamond had a recall because approximately 100 dogs died from eating their food. They use a lot of corn which, in this case, had a fungus which is deadly to dogs because it causes severe liver damage. Quote:

I know the cause of Diamond's recall. And I am sticking to Life's Abundance unless the doctor feels my dog will need a special diet for his bladder problems. I never thought it was Life's Abundance but it was just odd that after 5 years and a change in diet he developed crystals and stones. The stones will have to be analyzed. As far as Wysong's, the dog was definitely overfed and I'll try it one more time for now. Thanks for your feedback. |
If you are home cooking for a puppy what should you make? I have been reading about the Chicken Soup and I want to go get a bag for Britain to try and see if she likes it. My aunt feeds her dog the Royal Canine and says its great. Also, Britain is a treat hog. She wants them all the time. Which ones are the best to give her? What should I avoid? How much is ok in a day? |
Eagle Pack I just got back from shopping for dog food. My dogs started out on RC puppy and then adult yorkie food. I switched to Merricks chicken potpie and and we have tried a few other flavors but Mayzie just doesn't seem all that crazy over any that we have tried. I ended up with Eagle Pack Holistic Selects. What is anybody's opinion on it? For some reason I can't get to the Dog analysis site. |
Gizmo eats canned Chicken Soup for breakfst and dinner, but nibbles on the dry CS during the day. |
other: i feed blue buffalo holistic dog food |
feeding the pup I just got my first yorkie. I am so glad I found this thread because I have had so much trouble getting her to eat. Her breeder said she was eating science diet puppy dry food but she will not touch any dry food here at my house. I always buy Nature's Select for my other 2 dogs (cocker and min pin) and they love it. We bought the puppy line for Maggie (the new yorkie pup) and she will only eat maybe 1 or 2 dry kibbles if she see's one laying on the floor by her bowl or something. the only way I have been able to get her to eat her food is to mix it with some canned dog food...the kind with "chunks in gravy". the others...she won't touch. the vet told me to entice her with mighty dog canned for a bit and taper off of it to encourage her to eat the dry food. but I do not want mighty dog...I want something more natural and not full of chemicals or 'who knows whate else'. I could sure use some suggestions as to what I can mix in her food to get her to eat it. Even if it means something from my fridge...I'll do it. I would rather her eat natural foods with no bi-products or fillers. I keep hearing about cottage cheese but I have always thought that dairy would be bad for dogs. So I really hesitate to give it to her. Maggie is 11 weeks old and super picky. She won't even eat out of certain dishes. I had to find one in my cabinet...it is my husbands grandmothers china. She will eat out of that but not out of any of the dog bowls we have. PICKY!!!! I have a feeling we will end up with a crystal dish and a pedestal for the spoiled baby. We have only had her since Tuesday, December 19 so she is still very new to us and to our family. We love her to pieces!!!!! |

I'm having a hard time with his food right now and like I stated above I tried the Wysong food hoping he'll like it. It's been a disaster and I went back to Life's Abundance dry food with Merrick Smothered Comfort for wet which I feed in the evening. He seems happiest that way and I can add Wysong to the list of foods he dislikes and the money I wasted again. |
i feed my yorkie dick van patten's natural balance!! the reason why is because it has no corn, soy, perservatives, wheat ect! all natural!!! and he loves it!! |
