Meat Tenderizer-Won't Eat Poop? :confused: My vet metioned using some kind of meat tenderizer in Sophie's food so she won't eat her poop. All I can remember is maybe Sultan's something meat tenderizer. Does anyone know? |
No idea, but I have tried Deter and anything to make it undesirable to turn around and chow down. It totally grosses me out. Kylie can not help herself and if I don't pick it up in time she goes for it like candy. ew! :tongue4: If you find something that works let me know. It is worth a try!! Deter seems to work but on some occasions I still find her back to old habits. I hope she grows out of it. |
Maya m yPom ate her poop when she was a puppy and the vet said you can use meat tenderizer or Forbid which they had and they were pretty much the same thing. It did work. |
we had to do the same. Our vet recommended MSG, it's a bag you can find in your grocery store that's looks like sugar. IT's like a $1 per bag and you put a tiny bit in their water. Works for ours. It's used in human foods, and i've noticed when I eat foods with MSG, it makes me so thirsty and I've noticed our dog drinking more when we put this in her water. |
I asked my vet again and she said it is Adolph's Meat Tenderizer that you put in their food. It is frustrating because Sophie is on meds for Coccidia and Giardia and she keeps reinfesting herself by eating her poop:( |
Product for Poopie eaters My friend swears by Solid Gold SEP (Stop Eating Poop). I have had no experience with this problem so it is only word of mouth but it might be worth a loop up! |
I'm confused about MSG. I thought it wasn't good for people so how come it's good for our babies? |

Dealing with poop eating and Giardia I am battling Giardia with Bella and Colby. They are both on meds for it and they are both still eating poop. EWWWW We tried the meat tenderizer but it only made them throw up a few minutes after eating their meal. The doc is ordering Forbid for us to try. Anyone had any luck with this? The Giardia has been an ongoing battle for over a month now. I am getting very weary as you may imagine. They are on meds for three more days and we shall see if it has cleared up or not. I am afraid they keep re infesting themselves with it. Thank goodness they are healthy otherwise. I have to be very careful especially with Colby as he is only 2.5 lbs at almost 5 months. Any help from you guys would let me regain my sanity!!!! |
I bought some stuff at the petstore called potty mouth, I liked it because it was a chewable table instead of the stuff you sprinkle on the food...Ginger quit eating it, but, would still go over and take a bite, then wouldn't eat it, but would still play with it..I've got 4 of them trained on pee pads, she seems to know before I do, if they're in there going, and is ready and waiting...Hope no one is eating lunch and reading this..I got the meat tenderizer(the kind without anything added to it) and also put that on their food, like I said both things seem to work, but they may still want to play with it.. |
I used the Adolfs meat tenderizer because Spike was a big poo fan. He had it in his mind that Sugar's litter box was his personal buffet.:eek: It worked great for us. I used it for about 2 weeks and never had to use it again. |

Poop-eating We are struggling with this issue right now. I have two pups--Gabby and Izzy. Gabby is the poop-eater in this house! This is so embarrassing to admit my baby has this problem--she will eat both her own and Izzy's! She is not interested in any strange deposits in our yard, however. We have deer, racoon, and who knows what else leaving their calling cards--she'll roll in that, but won't eat it (thank God!) We are putting meat tenderizer on their food right now, along with a pill called Distaste, and plain yogurt, which was recommended by a friend. It helps somewhat, in that she'll start the behavior, realize it tastes bad, and then stop. She can't seem to learn not to try it in the first place, though. Other things that I heard about and am going to try next are canned pumpkin and canned pineapple. I hesitate about the pineapple, I don't know if that might upset their stomachs. I'm going to try the pumpkin as soon as the container of yogurt is gone. Good luck on solving your problem. Let us know if you find a solution. Gayle in Illinois |
Pineapple juice works well too. Lexi is a poop eater, so we add some to her food every few days. It makes her smell all fruity! |
helpful thread I'm so glad we are having a dialogue about this disorder. Looks like there may be quite a few of us battling this. Could you tell me why the pineapple juice? Does that make their poop taste bad enough not to eat it? (as if it wasn't bad anough already!) |
