What is the best food brand for Yorkies :animal-pa Hey everyone. New yorkie owner here. Having problems with my 7 week old yorkie eating. Been feeding him Pedigree Little Champions chicken flavored soft food. After he eats he throws up small amount of food. Wondering if he is eating too much or it I need to change brands. What is a good brand? Thanks! |
I feed Teddy Royal Canin starters and he loves it |
Hi hun, I give mine Wysong....solid food and Merrick canned food (they have great flavors....and I also buy Solid Gold Freeze dried Buckaroo Beef patties to just chop up a little and put in their food. They LOVE it! |
I love Solid Gold Wee bits, Verus, Candidae and California Natural. I also add some plain boiled chicken and smidge of non-fat plain yogurt and Georgie loves it. |
I give mine Royal Canine. Yours shoukld be on the Royal Canine Baby dog food, for puppies up to 10 weeks. At his age you will need to add water or chicken broth to the dry food. You can give him a small amount of canned food twice a day, but if you are giving him stricktly canned food, you may find it hard to switch him to dry food later. And that may also be the reason he is eating too much and then vomiting. But if you have switched foods, that would cause it also. You have to change foods very gradualfly for these li9ttle guys. However ANY FOOD is better than NO FOOD. |
I just changed Sophia over to Wellness..She really likes it... The wet and dry puppy food has very good ingredients :) |
I feed my two boys Merricks dry food (Cowboy cookout or Grammy's Pot Pie). I also feed Snickers Royal Canin #30 for fussy eaters, because he gets tired of Merricks and then refuses to eat. But he never refuses the Royal Canin. I've just been reading about Natural Balance dog food. ConsumerSearch rated it the best food you can buy for your dog (aside from making your own homemade dog food). I'm thinking of giving it a try. Has anyone else tried this? |
I feed my yorkie Nutro Choice....but which ever food you decide to feed your baby make sure it does not have corn because it could cause skin allergies on your baby..... |
i feed mine the nutro max for puppies dry, no wetting. he eats it fine.... |
I feed Lady Nutromax puppy dry also.... |
I feed mine Nutro Ultra |
lexi eat merricks now... |
I feed my 2 PICKY PICKY eaters Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lovers Soul and Canidae All Life Stages (both dry food) mixed together with Missing Link supplement.   Any dog foods on this list are excellent foods. You could try some of them out and see which one your little furbaby likes best. This is the 5-star list off the Dog Food Reviews website. Don't feed any foods off the 6-star list, as they are too high in protein for our little ones. |
I feed mine Purina Pro Plan Small Breed Formula dry food. The pieces are very small, so he can chew them fine. Vet say that 2 out of 3 meals should be dry food. I know Yorkies are picky eaters, but if you start by feeding them one by one in the mouth, they eat. |
As your pup is very young, his mouth is probably small. So, I'd stick to a dry food where you can get very small kibbles. Royal Canin has a small breed puppy formula that has small bites. Royal Canin is a good food, but definitely not the best due to it containing corn and wheat products. The super premium foods that you can find in pet stores are Natural Balance, Merricks, Innova, Solid Gold, and Eagle Pack. Solid Gold has a wee bits formula where the bites are really small. This is what Sissy eats (when she nibbles at her kibble). She also eats the Natural Balance meat roll (looks kind of like sausage in a plastic casing). I have heard from a rep from Natural Balance that they don't have a specific puppy formula because their food is so nutritionally good, that puppies would just eat a little more of it and that is the only real difference between puppy and adult formulas. I agree that ANY food is better than NO food, but if you can find a better brand that your pup will eat, hopefully he will be healthier because of it. Good luck and switch over slowly. |
