We have tried alot of dog foods since two have sensitive stomachs. I have them switched to Wellness Simple Solutions Duck and Brown Rice. It has been so easy to switch both, one has colitis, over to this food. I hope it continues to agree with them. Jessica |
Eukanuba so far... Right now I'm feeding my 6 month old Eukanuba. The breeder had been feeding him this food. We tried to gradually change to Science diet, but his stools became soft and terrible smelling, so we are sticking with Eukanuba for now. It's supposed to help with the digestive system. But, I am not the most experienced of the group... Just hope I could help! |
Abbie's been eating human-grade RAW meat and bones (mostly chicken), since she was 9weeks. No worries about allergic reactions to corn or the many other fillers in even the highest priced commercial 'dog food'. It's completely digestible, and the bones give her teeth, neck and shoulders a good workout; and there's no substitute for the nutritive-rich marrow. |
Yorkieluvr2, Is this what you are feeding: http://www.petfooddirect.com/store/p...CXNHK9GVRE8SB0 If so, it's not the worst I've seen (puppy chow is far worse), but there are better foods out there, but maybe not in your area. I don't like ground yellow corn as an ingredient, prefer no wheat and definitely soybean bean is a negative. If you're limited in your area, I think the new Purina Pro Plans Selects look to be a better choice (but don't recommend them over tons of other superior brands available at pet stores and even feed stores). Most small towns have feed stores and many of them carry the premium dog food Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul and Wellness. P.S. I fed Eukanuba for years without any health or weight problems, but wouldn't recommend it because of the by-products. |
Abbie's Mom, While I commend those that actually prepare their dog's meals (I am just too lazy). Just giving chicken is not meeting her nutritional requirements. It takes a lot of research and many ingredients to match what goes into a commercial preparation as far as nutrition is concerned. |
Lacy's Mom....That is the brand but I'm not feeding the puppy food. What I am feeding is the Adult as I am mixing it with the Eukanuba puppy food. It doesn't contain any corn, wheat, soy, dairy, yeast, beef and beef by-products. It does contain Lamb Meal, Brown Rice, and Oatmeal. I haven't seen any of the brands people have mentioned here in the feed store. Science Diet, Iams, Pedigree, and Purina Puppy Chow and Eukanuba are the big ones carried around here. I can probably get other foods in other bigger towns though and will do so if that is what I need to do. I was told that feeding half puppy food and half adult food is better than feeding all puppy food as all puppy food can cause too quick of growth possibly causing problems later on with the bones but I don't know it is hard to know what to believe. Cooper was very picky also. The breeder sent food home with us and he would not not eat it. I called the breeder and she said to come and get some of mommas food but he didnt like it either. We tried so many different foods till we found Nutro for puppies. Now he eats great, I even get him Nutro treats. Im just wondering how long to give him puppy food . He will be a year old in December. |
Like I said in an earlier post....I feed my Maltese and Yorkie Nutro which they seem to like. However, my Maltese continues to have tearstaining despite my constant cleaning and I'm tempted to change the food to see if that makes a difference. I believe in the old saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" because they seem to be happy with their food, but that darn tearstaining bugs me. The Yorkie seems to have a little eye discharge, but of course it is not as noticeable. Does anyone have any suggestions and have any of you had this problem? |
I like ProPlan. I feed my two dogs ProPlan Chicken and Rice and my two cats ProPlan Salmon and Rice. All eat their food without a problem. My golden will not eat any other dog kibble and neither will my yorkie. Cozy, the yorkie, will steal the cats food though but only eat a few mouthfuls and then walks away. The cat food won't hurt her though so it does not really matter. |

I started mine on natural balance and she got tired of it quickly. It also caused bladder stones in my pug.... pugs can't handle high protein foods. It happened to two other pugs at the park that i know of. |
good post My yorkie eats nature's receipe, but I wanna try Orijen or Inova Evo. What do you think? |

Pedigree is not a very good food and I recommend you to swith her to a premium food. Don't get intimidated by the "premium" word the price is almost the same as other regular food and yorkies don't eat that much. It's not like he will make u brake the bank. |
