Emu Oil - Good for Dogs Coats & Skin I recently bought some Emu Oil for my own hair and started reading about it on the net - there is alot of info on it and from what I'm seeing - it's GREAT for our pets - Has anyone used it and has it helped ???? These sites offer alot of info on it. http://www.diamondemu.com/uses.htm http://www.gentleridge.com/animalsemuoil.html We see itchy yorkies here all the time and I thought I'd put this post up so people can do their own research if they're in need of a solution for their dogs coat or skin This is the part about PETS (from the 1st link I posted) : Pet Owners Use Emu Oil To: Soften pads on dogs and cats Condition the skin and coat Reduce irritation of flea bites Relieve dry, irritated skin Relieve chronic ear infections Treat minor cuts and wounds Relieve hot spots and dermatitis Reduce hair loss from skin problems |

I've used emu oil for ages. Especially on my show dogs. I've not had itching problems on any of my dogs. But it does protect the coat wonderfully and it doesn't attract the dirt as much as other oils do, also not as greasy. |
I'm really liking what I'm reading. My friend said she uses it for her horses - it's for Joint pain too.... if it works for a HORSE.... Can you imagine what it can do for a Yorkie with bad knees or hips ? |
Thanks Villette. Which did you order? I am going to try it on Cali and my dtr and I have eczema and my husband has Psoriasis. |

Rhapsody Yorkies sells it on her website I paid $18.00 ....she has it far less - http://www.dog-bows.com/cgi-bin/TheF...RP1&category=1 What I did was mix mine with water and put in a spray bottle. From what I read - you can run it under warm water to make it easier to apply and this is the ratio for spraying it on the coat - Mix 3 ounces of warm water with 1/2 ounce of Emu Oil, mist into slightly damp freshly bathed coat, finish drying. This amount is enough for a couple applications, depending on coat type and amount. |
I am REALLY liking what I'm reading!!!!!! :D :p :D :p :D I use Missing Link on my two and it has done wonders for their dry skin and coat, but they are still itching! I know the flea season is just AWEFUL this year, but I have been giving them Frontline every 2 weeks and haven't seen any fleas on them since I started this. But, after reading the benefits of the Emu Oil, I have a feeling this will be the magic potion for my two! I think they are itching because of the irritation the flea bites cause. Also, the pollen and junk they pick up in the yard is probably irritating their skin. I can't wait to try this stuff! Thanks, Villette!   |
im really liking what I am reading!! I am going to have to get some and try it on my girls :p |
:) :) :) :) :) I AGREE! I'm going to try it today on Tessa my cocker - she has CHRONIC ear infections and after tons of vet visits and medications - I just found out the ONE medication I've been using on her - Baytril - is making her ears worse. This stuff sounds WONDERFUL....especially the part about pain relief and sores. |

Never thought about using it on dogs since we have never had any itchy ones. I do have some. I use it for when my head itches after coloring and it stops the itch right away! Thanks for the website. I didn't know it was good for other things. |
Does it have an unpleasant smell? A friend of my mother's sells it and my mom said she thought it didn't smell good (but she is used to fragrance free products). |

I have posted several times about the miracles of Emu Oil :) . The product I use is called Herbal Wound Spray and it is made by Laid In Montana -- I am sure there MUST be a story behind that name. But their products are incredible. I have horses and occasionally one will get hurt.... the spray HEALS even serious deep wounds and DOES NOT LEAVE SCARS. I keep a small bottle in the house for ME! :) Here is a link to Laid in Montana's website http://www.laidinmt.com/ From looking at their home page, it certainly looks like someplace I would like to live :D |
I bought some emu oil off ebay and I cant wait to try it out! :p |

I love the smell..... it is very hard to explain, but it is very recognizable, like when you smell BenGay, you immediately know what it is :D |
wow, I cant wait to get some of this and try it, it sounds wonderful! Thanks for the great tip! |
I just wanted to add to the rave reviews for emu oil!     I discovered it when I had my horse! He would get this yucky skin condition on his legs (probably an allergy to grass seeds) but just a wash down with some vetadine and slap on the old emu oil [in neat form] and it'd go away! It was also brilliant for cuts and scrapes - it healed the skin really well. My horse was a thoroughbred (and lived 100% of the time in the paddock) so it seemed as if he always had some cut or nick. :D |

Thank you so much for the fast & informative reply. I think I'll get it from Rhapsody Yorkies to give it a try~ |
well I just used it on Lillie after her bath, I got mine from are health food store and like I said, I paid 12.00 for 2oz bottle. I put 3oz warm water, 1TBS emu oil, 2 drops of 100% lavender oil (for smell) and 2 drops 100% eucalyptus oil (helps keep fleas off) Bathed her like normal with Oatmeal doggie shampoo and bio groom cream rince. Towel dried her a little and sprayed that mixture on her wet coat (make sure you shake well) and let me tell you, I have never had such an easy time in combing her out, the comb went right through, even under her arms where she was a little matted, normally she yelps and cries and she only yelped slightly. I'm amazed, but I do think she is a little more greasy feeling, but I did not blow dry her cause my dryer just took a poop on me today. So that may make a difference next time. And it could have been the extra oil I put in. But she smells wonderful! |
