need some help Today I decided to to trim down macys coat cause it so cottony and thick I figured she would be more comfortable. Well after I finished grooming her I was spraying her down and combing thru her cpat and I notice a really weird spot on her hip towards her rear. It is about the size of a nickle and is slighty bluish in color . it also feels a lil leathery it doesnt bother her if you touch it and I havent seen her scratching there is also no hair in that lil spot. Any idea what it could be. I left a message at the vets but its after hours. |
Gosh I dont know what it could be. I know there is a condition called leather ear where the ear gets leathery and hair doesnt grow there but I dont know if she could have that on her hip. Good luck and keep us updated on what the vet says. |
Maybe it could be a birth mark? I would have the vet take a look at it too. |
Well i have been looking up rashes on dog sites and it looks like it may be ringworm. Wont know for sure till I see the vet tommorow. This is not good because I have 4 kids and a shepherd and from everything I have read it is contagious!! I am mostly worried though because my sister is due in 2 weeks and she is always by my house. Has anyone else dealt with ringworm? |

the edges arent really raised but it looks bumpy almost like lil tiny scabs but they arent scabs. It looks like it is from the pics I am seeing on different websites. I am taking her to the vet tommorow but I am worried about the kids now! How do I check to see if they have it? |
It starts as a little round red place on your skin...its flat it grows in time...can you take a pic of your baby's place maybe if I saw it I can tell you if its ringworm... |
Im charging up my camera right now. I should be able to have a pic for you soon. God I am hoping and praying it is not ringworm. I have carpet in the family room and the babies room and my room. We just tore up the carpet in the living room, the girls room and the hallway. Do i need to get rid all of it? |
Oh and thank you for helping me!!!! I really appreciate it. |
Just wait to see if you have it before you have a panic attach...you will it get through it trust me, its just not fun, but I did get rid of my carpet but not because of it, but it is easier if you don't have carpet. I hope I can help you as much as possible..I didn't know alot about it either...:) |
My dtr got a guinea pig years ago and it had ring worm. Then because Iwas the one taking care of it I got it. Ir was much easier to get rid of on me than the GP. I had to take it every week for a while for a sulphar? bath and it was a whitel peruvian long haired GP and he would come back yellow and then I had an ointment I had to put on 3 times a day. We did get rid of the ringworm and my dtr never did get it. It couls also be a little bacterial infection. my Pom gets those and they are round and almost blackish around the edges and the hair falls out. I just have to put panalog cream on them and it's not contagious. Hopefully that's what it is. Good luck |
If she does have it you need to isolate her from the rest of you...which I know is almost impossible but that is the only way for it not to spread.. |
1 Attachment(s) okay here a pic of it, it is a lil grainy because the camera is not fully charged. |
It looks like it might be but not really, let me ask you a question. is it red around the edges, or red at all, is it crusty or anything like that |

It is not red anywhere. There are lil brownish spots that kinda look a lil crusty but not raised. Almost like when a kid doesnt wash behind his ears and then you have to go and scrub it lol. I know wierd but thats what it reminds of. It also feels kinda of leathery and it is kinda bluish. |
ring worm is gross but it's not actually a worm it's like a skin virus they can give you a topical cream to put on it and it goes away pretty easy. from the pic it looks really big i don't think it's ringworm it looks like a skin infection to me but i'm not a vet i would take her in asap because if it is something serious you don't want it transferred to you or anyone else. I had a boyfriend in highschool who was a wrestler and he used to get ring worm all the time from the mats but i though it was a relitivly small circle perfectly round and raised on the edges and it is highly contagious also like the size of a pea or smaller than a dime but not sure if it can get that big good luck and let us know what happens! |

It actually looks biger in the pic than it really is. I would say it is a lil smaller than quarter. |
Ringworm can get to be the size of a quarter, I know we had it for 4 months, my daughter went to her prom looking like a pokadot...she is dark skin and naturally had to go to the tanning bed to get darker well it turn out pretty bad were she had gotten ringworm it didn't tan..I really don't think it is ringworm, what I remember the most was it would red and not moist but not leathery either...Thank God your are going to the vet tomorrow, but I don't think it is, there was a post not too long ago about it, and she did have it let me see if I can find it, so you can look at the pics.... |
okay I found the post finally go look a the pic and let me know if it looks like yours...http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42616 |

no it doesnt look like that at all. there is no red whats so ever on macy's spot. |
Okay girl, cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: I bet you don't have it...I would go to the vet anyway & find out what it is..Good Luck & keep us posted ......:D |
whew!!! Thank you so much for all your help i really appreciate it. I checked all the kids from head to toe and dont see anything on them. Cross your fingers it is just a birth mark or maybe allergies. I feel a lil bit better but will still keep her away from at least xaro and the kids till I see what the vet says. THANKS AGAIN!!! |
Could it be a hot spot? |
The post I found wasn't ringworm, but I would have bet money on it that to me is what it looks like not that big at first very small & grows...she probably just has a birthmark or something bactria, if you or your kids had it, I know 100% it looks like a little (top of you pinky finger) hickey, if that makes sense... |

It may be because my shepherd has allergies and he has a hot spot which is actually finally clearing up. They dont look the same though. We just got done spending over 200.00 on xaro for his allergies which seem to get worse every year. The vet wanted to put him on steriods but I said no at least not right now. i will let you guys know what the vet says tommorow keep your fingers crossed it is not ring worm. Thanks so much for all the help |
Good Luck!!:) :) |
I am having a problem with my shepherd with allergies too....he doesn't have hot spots, but raised bumps all over....I has drove me nuts...vet bill over 150 for one visit & they still don't know what is causing it..he is only 4 months old....and chews on his self all the time... |
okay guys just got back from the vet and ...... It is NOT ringwork!!! (sue doing happy dance righ now) He said it is a hot spot and he gave me some gel called tresoderm to apply to it. I am sooooo relieved. He did laugh at my grooming job though lmao. My groomer is also in my vets building and he said "better not let carol see it" ROFL Thanks again guys for all your help lastnight im so excited right now that I am going to take her to petco to get a lil something later:D |

Xaro's allergies have gotten worse with every year. His spot is near his groin and down the inside of his leg. The problem we have is that he is constantly licking it which aggravates it, he has licked it raw in some spots. Another friend of mine whose shepherd has similiar problems has recommended putting that atheletes foot spray on it. It was posted on a shepherd forum spraying bitter apple on it will keep them from constantly biting at it. |
:cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: I am so happy for you...Trust me you never want ringworm.....Hey thanks for the advise on Shepherds, Max is on everything under the sun, didn't start till I got him, so we are trying to figure out if its grass or frontline plus....he was never around either till he came home....Take that baby to petco and buy some toys.....:D |
