I have gracie who is still alive, she did not have cleft pallet but only wanted to suckle for about a minute or two, then sleep 4 hours. so we tube fed her night and day for two weeks.. she then had the strength to suckle on her own and we kept her.. named her grace " for the grace of god she is still alive"

I was going to name tIA "ANGEL" because I beleive she is one :)

I'm sorry you lost yours. :( I fed Tia round the clock every hour/24/7, until and gradually to every 2 hours. I fed as much as she would take.

She definatley brightens my day EVERYDAY. You should see her happy face :)

Did Tia ever have surgery to help with the cleft palate? Just curious as you say she still drinks her water from a bottle. She and Zoey are absolutely precious. We have a little spotted Chihuahua along with our three Yorkies. Chi's are defintely special. She's my husband's favorite and he's her favorite...that works out well all around.

No I never had surgery on her because honestly I'm way TOO scared. She functions fine the way she is now soooooooo I don't want to mess with things.

IF, and god forbid, her health became jepordized then I would do whatever it takes.

But she eats good and drinks from a water bottler and she's happy as heck, so we are good :)

She is very special!!!!!!!!

Hi there,

Just found this forum and was wondering if there were any updates on Tia & Joker. I have a little Boston Terrier with cleft palate that I have been bottle feeding for 3 weeks now. Would love to hear if these two little ones made it. I think the last post was in 06.

Hi! Tia was 2 years old in July and she is the light of my life!!! Here are updated pics of her :) (and her mommy)

She is doing great! I didn't have the cleft fixed, she adjusted to it and drinks from a water bottle and eats hard kibble.

I have a strange request and would be extremely appreciative of any help. I am doing research on how people react to animal faces and want to look particularly at animals with cleft lip. I would like to use pictures of puppies, kittens, dogs and cats, preferbaly front on. I was wondering if anyone had any such images that they might be willing to allow me to use? I would be very grateful for any assistance.

I really know nothing about this subject but just wondering why you couldn't feed them with the stomach tube? I'm not sure what its called but its a tiny tube that you hook on the end of a syringe and you would completely bypass the mouth and go straight to the tummy..Ever tried this?

Jexxie, That's what I ended up doing with Zaccheus. he did fine with the bottle until a certain point, then sudden'y, like Tia, he couldn't anymore. The vet explained that it was just because his mouth outgrew the nipple, and the formula wasn't getting far enough down his mouth to swallow before it went up into his sinuses, and out his nose.

I read this story/thread over and over again and Im in awe every time I read it. Little Tia is a truly amazing little dog, she is gorgeous Breny and Im very proud of both of you!!

Awwww your so sweet (((hugs)))

I was shocked to see this thread appear again!!!! But happy because Tia is my heart. :) She is completely amazing. She will be THREE years old in July!!! I can't believe it!!!

She still has her issues but doing fine. She drinks from a water bottle I have hanging on the wall for her and eat her hard food.

Now this just gives me another chance to post her picture!!!!! :p:p:p

A truly emotional story and a lesson to whomever finds problems with their babies and the first thing they do is think of giving them away. Congrats! You're a true example to the community. :)

Its been a long time and seems like forever as well !!! I will never forget finding YT when I needed help saving my baby :animal-pa

She's still healthy and happy and the love of my life and I just thought I would update! She will be 9 years old July 9th, 2015 !!!
