wont stop itching I know a lot of people on here must have the same problem. my pup itches her head and bites her feet all the time. its so bad she is keeping my husband and i up at night. when i told the vet about this he said give her .5 ml of childerns benadryl. I have been doing that 2 times a day. I have also switched her shampoo to oatmeal before I used cc. as far as her diet, thats a joke. she hardly eats her puppy food which i give her chix soup for puppys soul or she'll eat some chicken i make. i am not sure if i should take her back to the vets or try something else. please help if you have had this problem, i feel so bad for her. If she wont eat her food then maybe you should try a different brand. Something is causing her to itch, how offten are you bathing her? |
Cali is scratching her head and neck alot, no fleas, the vet said same think about the Benydryl. Didn't help much unless i gave her enough to make her sleepy all the time. She is scratching the fur off her chin and by her lips. She also eats chicken and it on Lissing Link Supplement. I have no ideas sorry! |

could she possibly be getting misquito bites? my Ahia does that. she is allergic to misquitos. I have switched to the pet silk tea tree shampoo. it seems to be doing the trick with her. I have used to 3 times on her and the itching is going away. |
This topic comes up a lot so I started a thread based on experiance and research to help. I got so worried about all the cortizone shots she was getting to make her stop itching and when I found out there are some terrible side effects after long term use, I decided to do something about it and Jazzie is now free of itching, cortizone & over the counter meds except for spring. she could be allergic to chicken. I know it sounds funny but it's a likely explemation. I'd talk to your vet about getting allergy tested. to just tell a person to use Benidryl doesn't explain what the allergy could be. She has all the symptoms of being allerigic to something even after the benidryl and you said she'll sometimes eat the chicken you give her so that could very likely be what she's having these reactions too. It's a somewhat odd allergy but it's likely. Also...They make a anti itch creme they sell at Petsmart. if you have one near you I'd recommend buying some until you can find out "for sure" what is causing the itching. |
Getting her tested for allergies is a great idea. I had Jazzie done and she is allergic to Cats Dust Mites Pollen (hence the spring outbreak) She had the blood test type so it was easy on her. I took her to a veterianay dermatologist for the tests. |

What over the counter meds do you use? After reading your research article, I think I have to cut out wheat. Latte is on Atopica and it has worked well and we're cortisone-free, but she still scratches and chews on her feet. |

I'm appalled at how many Vet. will "sluff" off a problem by telling you to give them medication instead of getting to the source of the problem and correcting it. Itching can come from many sources, but generally it's food related. If there are no fleas or skin problems and no weed killer or fertalizer on the lawn, it just may be a food allergy especially since the head is also itchy. You could put the dog on rice and hamburger for a week or two and see if that helps. If it does, then I'd keep the dog on real food. |
