Science Diet .?.?.? Im starting this thread to decide which is the best food to switch my Gracie to. Right now she is eating Science diet puppy. I've heard from many people that because of the corn in it and allergies i should switch to something else but some say it is the best and vet recommended... Why is it vet recommended and not that good for them? thats what i dont get! Well anyway if everyone can tell me what they feed, fed, or what is best to feed my puppy i would be veryy thankful!!! Thankss For all the responsess!!! :animal-pa |

I believe it is all individual preferences, dogs seem to do well on all brands. It just depends on what yours likes, and if they are alergic to corn or not. I feed science diet, Natural choice, royal canine, Iams and Puppy chow. They eat what they want, but Royal Canine does appear to be their favorite. |
Ok I'm kinda a dog food nut. Science diet is recommended by vets because they sponser their colleges (fact) rumor: also because they get a percentage of science diet sales to keep them advertising. Science diet is not good because with any dog food you want the first three main ingrediants to be some form of meat. Preferrably not a by-product(which can consists of heads, feet and the likes). Corn is not digestable and a lot of dogs are allergic to high corn content. Look at it this way... what goes in must come out and if you're putting stuff in them that isn't really that digestable they're going to poop out more. I highly recommend: Natures recipe, Innova, and Nutro Natural Choice or Nutro Ultra. They are all natural will have no by-products, and they'll make your dogs doodie smell less and more compact. Meaning they won't poop as much. |

My baby Loves Royal Canine. I believe it's because of how small the pieces are. It's easier for them to chew. |
I have fed all four of mine Science Diet. They have no allergies, are very healthy, really nice healthy coats and love their food. If they were having problems, I would have to switch, but they are doing great.:) |
I feed Mia Merrick's Puppy Plate. Merrick's is one of the better ones. I would recommend Chicken Soup, Innova, Canidae, Merrick's type of high quality foods. Depends on which one your dog likes. If you ask for samples, I am sure fellow YT members would send you some. It's been done before. That way you don't have to buy the entire bag only to find out that your dog won't eat it. |
Is Nature's Recipe Nutro Natural Choice or Merricks better ? |

Oh, and you can find nutritional info on the brands' websites. |

I am new here, and do not have my puppy yet but I have not been able to get off of yorkietalk for a week now. I can't wait to get my baby. Anyway this link was posted in another thread and I found it very useful! :) http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_f...iews/index.php |

there protein is way to high, to much protein is not good for yorkies, it should be around 30% please read this list of bad food for dogs http://mooreshaven.com/pets/dogs/saf...foodslist.html |
yes I read about all of the dog foods from 6 stars down to 1 star, and came to the conclusion that none of the 6 star food was fit for a yorkie, IMO the best foods seem to be Innova, Merrick's, and Canidae, my only concern is the vitamin c in Canidae. It can case liver and kidney damage. Just thought the original thread maker might find the like helpful like I did when doing my research on food. It really gives an easy to read breakdown of each food, also the reviews point out some things I didn't not know myself. |
