broken leg I'm new to this so bear with me. I've got a yourkie with a broken leg. It might be healing and it might not. The vet I'm going to put the first splint on to tight and sylvester (my yourkie) went that way for a week. when I went back today (we are on his 4th splint because they keep changing it) I was told he needs to get out of the splint or his leg is going to rot (one of his pads fell off when they took the splint off). Then she tells me it just might be healing and if it is we will stay with the splint. They told me in the begining it may need to be plated. I've told them I can not pay for this all at once. they told me nobody will take payments. Now they seem to be pushing for amutation since I can't pay the 1500.00 for plating all at once. Should I find a new vet? Or get the referral to the orthopedic vet and see what he says? |
Oh my! Your poor baby! :( I have no experience with this...but I would say if you don't have a good feeling about this vet, a 2nd opinion never hurt anyone, human, feline or canine!!! Welcome to YorkieTalk! Me and Sully say to Sylvester: :getwellso |
You could go to your bank and take out a personal loan. |
Get a second opinion!!! I wouldn't even hear of amuption! Surely some vet accepts payments somewhere. Wish you the best. Keep us posted. |
Get a second opinion...also lots of clinics and animal hosp. do offer payment plans. |
Absolutely get a second opinion. My vet takes payments, I really don't think it is that rare in cases such as this. I hope his leg gets better soon :( |
Do you have an animal hospital as part of your Humane Society? I know here in CT the Humane Society has an animal hospital with low costs. Sometimes it's hard to get in since everyone wants to pay low prices but it is suppose to be for those that can't afford the treatments at other vets. Maybe check online and see if you have one near you and at least make an appointment for a 2nd opinion there!! |
I would deffinately get a second opinion, talking about aputation just because you cant pay all that money at once is just not fair on you or your baby at all..who has that kind of money these days anyway?? ALL of our vet clinics offer a payment plan, especially if you are a regular patient because if one day a car was to hit some ones baby,or someones dog suddenly gets sick(example),the bills would be very high and no one can just pull money out of thin air,so the payment plan is there to make the owners life a little easier and so that the poor dog has a chance of being saved. There must be a vet out there that does this kind of thing so I would start searching if I were you.The vet you have now doesnt sound very nice/understanding and he also doesnt seem to know how to put a cast on a dog..I would deffinately try and find another.Good luck!! I hope your babys leg is better soon:aimeeyork |
check out this website.. its made for such things if you can't afford to pay all at once. http://www.carecredit.com/patients/whatis.htm |
Oh poor baby. i will defenitely get a second opinion. I will have him in my prayers. Please keep us posted. |
Know how you feel Vets here in SOCAL will not take payments either. When Benni had his overdose in February, I had to give an immediate deposit of $800 (thank god for overdraft) and pay the bill in full four days later when he came home (another $864), I took out a loan and am now working two jobs at age 56 to pay it off. |
wow Millie! I dont know what Id do if our vets here did that:confused: Here if you are a regular patient you can pay for things slowly which is great because it means that pets have a better chance if something happens to them.If our vets didnt have payment plans, alot of people would have their babies put down instead of cured:( I think its insane to expect anyone to just come up with thousands of dollars from one day to another, imagine you dont have the money at the time and cant get a loan..what happens?:( |
wdeitz Did you find another vet to get a 2nd opinion. I was thinking about poor little Sylvester this morning!! |
I\'ve been looking for a new vet. The problem I\'m having is that nobody around me does the surgery to plate his leg. I have to go to a specialist for that. So thats what I\'m looking for now. I\'ve asked the current vet if this specialist would take payments and was told no. I hate to say it but its all about the money. Me not having it and these vets trying to get rich. Sylvester is one of my kids so I won\'t give up I know theres a way to help him and I will find it some how. |
so sorry i\'m so sorry to hear this. like everyone already said, definitely get a 2nd opinion and perhaps switch vets. can i ask, how did he break his leg? hope everything is going well! |
