My husband tripped over him one night. We took him to the only vet I could find that would meet us at night. I thought he was a good vet but it looks like things have changed. |

wdeitz... I found a website that has low cost spay neuter programs in TN. I know this isn't what you are looking for, BUT you can start calling these folks and get some leads on some vets that care more about the animals than the money. I found a low cost clinic where I live by researching the spay/neuter programs on the internet. I noticed you lived in TN, so that's what I looked up. Call and ask if they know of any vets in your area that takes payment plans and tell them your situation and PLEASE make sure you mention the unnecessary amputation. http://www.sosanimals.org/index.html |
Thanks for the help. I'm looking in to all the info you give me. I'm around Ashland city and Clarksville. Right now my biggest worry is that they may have done some kind of damage to his leg when they left the splint on for a week with it too tight. And I wonder if they don't want to admit that it's the reason thier pushing for amputation. |
My heart goes out to you & your dog...it's truly a shame that the vet isn't willing to help you out at all....but it also sounds like a new vet is in order...it seems a bit off to me that they're unsure if it's healing or not & recommending amputation at the same time. Best of luck to you! |
if the problem at hand is caused by the vet in the first place, why would they expect you to pay for their mistake? i would find another vet pronto and get the care that is needed and tell the first vet to eat the bill. |
broken leg I would definately get a second opinion. Amputation!! Oh my God. I had a female several years ago that jumped out of my sons arms & broke her front leg. After getting the cast off she jumped again (several days later) and rebroke it. The vet never made sure the bones were connecting and they had to do surgery. We went to a different vet. He did the surgery and let us make payments. |

Update Today we went back to the vet. I'm not sure what to think yet. They did an xray and say the bone is either healing very slow or not at all. But the skin of his leg looks a lot better. So now they say we leave the splint for 4 weeks and see what heals or I can have the surgery to have plates put in. The pad they said feel off is healing (it didn't fall off just lost a layer of skin). Does anybody know if you can get some kind of bone builder or calcium suppliment to help the healing? |
back to the vet again We went back to the vet today. They can feel a calcium bump which means its healing. I'm so happy. In another 2 weeks we should be rid of the splint for good!!! |
