That's why I think it's best to get pet insurance right when you get your pet, before any "pre-existing" conditions or if you are concerned about accidents like a broken bone. Otherwise, with a premium plan they will cover a percentage of regular vet visits after 50 dollars deductible. They also cover one major expense a year such as spay/neuter or blood work. Even that is after 50 dollars deductible and a certain percentage of it only. The regular plan does not cover vet visits. Neither of them covers genetic conditions--I think. I got the impression that if it turns out that Mia has a liver shunt (which I hope she doesn't), they wouldn't cover it even though we bought the plan before we found out. I am not sure though.
The whole thing is like a gamble, really. Your dog could have an accident, and if you are uncovered, it would cost you alot. But, s/he may not, in which case you may regret the money you paid for the insurance. I am answering more than you asked, but thought I would share since we bought the damned thing. |
