Itchy Has anyone had a problem with their Yorkie itching or scratching themselves more than normal? Our little Yorkie seems to itch alot during the evening hours into the early morning. We have tried several shampoo's and conditioners and am now using a hypoallergenic shampoo called "efa HyLyt".It does not seem to have help too much. I have read in various books not to use oil on her and have been told by our vet not to use human shampoo. Her skin looks fine, she does not have any bald spots and changing foods did not seem to make a difference. Does anyone have any recommendations? |
she could have fleas , or maybe allergys have you changed her food lately. |
I agree with Scrappysmom, also, do use that carpet sprinkle before you vacuum...this can be a problem? |
Oreo was like that too! he had dry flakey skin and would always itch no matter what shampoo we used. i tried a ton of those hypoallergenic ones, and oatmeal ones... i then got him the Missing Link (powder) supplement, recommended to me by a vet and all the itchiness, dry flakes dissappeared! |
Gucci skin is dry and flaky, she scratches cause of it. She was on medicated shampoo for ringworm for 4 months and she had to be bathed every 5 days so that can be why. Anyway, i heard to try using oatmeal shampoo. I will definetely try the Missing Link (powder) supplement. Gloria please let me know what works for you. Good luck. :aimeeyork |
itchiness can be caused by food allergies, too. what do you feed your dog? |

silk does this also...but only itches her feet alot...she looks like a cat grooming her self and chasing a flea. She is on flea preventative so I just ordered a bag of natural balance and I am going to see if that helps. |
Thank you all very much for your advice. We purchased Missing Link supplement today and will keep our fingers crossed. I'll be back to let everyone know how it works out in case someone has the same problem. |
i noticed that Nutro Max has gluten in it. Maybe your dog is allergic to gluten? |
Thank you so much for the info. I will try changing her food. What food you recommend for her? |
Ruby eats Nutro Natural Choice Lamb Meal & Rice Small Bites...green bag with a Sheltie on the front |
archie eats innova, which is actually really good for dogs with allergies. he eats royal canin dry, but i've heard people say that their dogs get itchy after eating it. |
Royal Canin Hey everyone. I have tried several types of food to see if it would help relieve the itching but saw no real difference. I'm starting to wonder if I should try yet another. We feed our dog Royal Canin for Yorkies. Has anyone had a problem with that? Also her skin looks good and she has no fleas or bald spots. Thanks :) |
Oreo..when he was at his itchy stage.. i changed his diet to Innova and used missing link as well.. innova is a great high quality food! www.naturapet.com |
