| What's up with Greenies? I was at Petco the other day and was about to buy a single serving of greenies bones. Several people told me that was great for bad breath. My little guy is 3 and I just got him a month ago. No one had ever brushed his teeth and he really does not like me to touch them. So, at the counter, the cashier told me that the greenies can actually kill my dog and that they were being fazed out and replaced with bones that have no green stuff in them. She said it was the ingredient that made them green that was bad for dogs. Does anyone know anything about this? Heather

| In the news i do know that not very long ago the news was full of Greenies being blamed for dogs dying and most people have removed them from their shelves. I have never given them to my dogs and never will. But my dogs don't like treats anyway. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I have stopped giving them to my 2 dogs even though my pom was getting one a day for years and didn't have any problems. I don't want to take a chance. There are quite a few threads on the dangers of them if you do a search you can get more info.

| greenies What I have heard is that dogs that gulp their treats and don't chew them well have gotten parts of the Greenies stuck in their intestinal tracts. They are not made with natural ingredients so they don't digest and surgery is usually the way to get them removed. Of course, that could be true with many of the dog chews out there. The breeder of my dog gives her dogs Pnutz and I went to buy some cause she gave one to my pup and she loved it. Right on the package it says not intended for dogs under 6 months of age. My little one is only 3 1/2 months! So, I am looking for something that is safe for her to chew on that is digestible cause she HAS to chew on something. I know Nylabone isn't good either and I've never had a dog that likes them anyhow. Anyone found any good products out there??? Omega |

| I've stopped giving my dogs Greenies too. I haven't heard about the Nylabones being bad. I can't have the soft or puppy nylabones in the house because Gracie could eat those easily but she doesn't do much damage to the durables and both dogs love them. Hmmm, better go do a search... |

| I lost my Lhasa Apso about 6 weeks ago due to Greenies. She was only 10 months old. I'd given them to her since we got her at 8 weeks. I'd never had any problems until one day she started vomitting and up came chuncks of greenies. To make a long story short, She had a chunck of greenie stuck in her intestines and made her bleed internally. There was nothing that they could do. We had to have her put to sleep. So please dont give your doggie greenies. |

| About 2 weeks ago I bought my puppy some treats they were meant to help with her stinky breath, they were not “greenies” but they were green they were by nutrical (I believe that’s what it was called) anywho they are these little tiny green treats well I gave it to her at around 11am and then at about 4pm she started throwing up and continued off and on for the rest of the day. She had to do in to the vet and then came home the same night and kept throwing up… the next day she was admitted into the vet hospital from Sunday till Monday the vet did every single test on her and everything was negative, so I am convinced that it was the green treat she had nothing out of the ordinary other then that… apparently any treat that is green is made with chlorophyll witch dogs can not digest therefore giving them an upset tummy or worse………. Never again will i buy a treat that is the colour green!

| Hey there! Just wanted to throw something in - chlorophyll isn't the problem, it's the binding agents used to hold the Greenies in that toothbrush shape that are the real culprit. Chlorophyll is completely safe and digestible for dogs and cats alike. The problem with Greenies is that if the dog or cat is chewing off more than a small piece, that piece could easily get stuck in their throats, or even worse, their intestines. The other problem is because of these binding agents, when the dog does nibble it into little pieces, those little pieces can still be binded together in the stomach and intestines, which can form a blockage of the intestines. Just google Greenies, and a whole slew of articles and investigations will pop up. Just in February, CNN did a whole piece on Greenies with their creator *and* pet owners whose beloved pets had died because of the Greenies. I think you can still pull up the transcripts, I just did the other day. If you want your pup to have fresh breath, Merrick makes these wonderful breath treats that are made with chlorophyll, rosemary, and peppermint - and they really work! I know a tub of them costs about 6 bucks, and lasts our little guy months! Happy to help!

| I did a search and didn't come up with anything bad about nylabones but if anyone knows anything I am all ears. I can tell you I started Gracie with the puppy ones and she got to a point where she could chew off chunks and I'm sure that could be very bad. We have great luck with the durables and she used to love the edibles but the vet put her on a diet so no edibles for now. |

| I know this thread is about a week old, but I felt I had to respond to it. I went to Petco the other day and asked the clerk what they recommended to control bad breath. She recommended Greenies bits since by baby is only 11 weeks old. I was so bothered to read about what everyone has posted and will stop feeding it to my baby immediately. I can't believe they would recommend something that could possibly be lethal! Does anyone have any other suggestions on what I can give my baby?
