What to Feed??? I HAVE BEEN FEEDING MY 2LB YORKIE PUPPY 1 CONTAINER OF CEASER A DAY I LEAVE HER DRY FOOD OUT AT ALL TIMES BUT SHE IS THE PICKIEST EATER SHE JUST DOES NOT LIKE DRY FOOD AND CEASER IS THE ONLY THING I CAN GET HER TO EAT ANY SUGGESTIONS :animal-pa |
Have you tried Merrick's? I don't think Ceasar is a good food to feed. :) |
Ceasar's is not the best quality dog food . I feed my pup merrick dry and wet . The wet looks just like something you would eat and very nutrious(sp?). Check out theier site see what you think www.merrickpetcare.com Hope this helps. |
Welcome to YT. The place where you can obsess about your yorkie and no one thinks you're crazy. I have no suggestions, because I have a picky eater too. I tried all of the quality food, have a full bag of each. Finally got her to eat Pedigree, but not real enthusiastically. I supplement with cottage cheese and scrambled eggs, to add a little more protein. I've been afraid to try canned food for fear she will never eat the dry food once she tastes the canned. |
I guess we have to remember too...we would rather eat what tastes good, than not. Hmmmm, raw veggies or a big fat juicy cheeseburger? I'll take the cheeseburger. There must be something in those not so quality foods that makes them desirable. I guess it's the fat and processed crap that makes it taste great to them. :animal36 |
I feed a strictly raw diet. Both Abbie (now 4months/3+lbs) and my 11 y/o mix love it. There seems to be very strong feelings about raw feeding (adamantly pro or con) - I do NOT want to insight a riot, here. Just sharing. I believe it saved my Mozart's (11 y/o mix) life. |

Yes. Chicken, Turkey, Rabbit, etc. Everything with bone in, except for beef. Beef bones are not recommended by most, as they are too hard. I don't want to hijack this thread for those not interested in RAW, so if you'd like to talk about it, message me or we can start a new thread :) |
I use Royal Canin for Yorkshire Terriers its a dry hard food and then I mix 1 TBS of soft wet Eukanuba and I give this to her once in the morning and then again around 4-5pm and she really loves it. |
Little Caesars is not the best. It's like junk food for dogs. Maybe you could switch to a healthier canned food and mix it with some dry till your dog gets used to it. |
Merrick's :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: My dogs LOVE this dog food and its good for them.O ya less dodo too. |
I feed my little man Eukanuba dry food. He's been eating it since he's a pup and loves it. |
Dry Food New to the site. When I got my girl in March, I ground up Eukanuba for puppies in my food processor and mixed it with beef baby food, she chowed it down. I have added whole pieces to it now that she is 3 lbs, and there is no problem. I am now looking for a good wet food. I saw that the merricks (sp?) was good. there is a supplier close to me so I am going to try that. Thanks for the tip! |
Here is a little summary from Whole Dog Journal of what to avoid: DO NOT BUY foods that contain low-quality ingredients such as "animal fat", "animal digest" or "meat meal" such as Purina Dog Chow, Cycle and Gravy Train; products whose protein is derived almost completely from "meat by-products" such as Cesar and Alpo; products lacking understandable expiration dates; foods containing artificial colors such as Purina's Beneful and Science Diet's Nature's Best; products containing "meat and bone meal", a very low quality protein source, such as Pedigree Complete Nutrition and Dad's; foods that are sweetened to tempt a dog's appetite such as Kibbles 'n Bits and Purina Dog Chow Senior 7+. |
Canidae, Innova, Natural Balance, Artemis, many others are good foods. What you want to try to get is a good super premium food. Look in the health food stores or the feed stores. You didn't say how old your little one is? They really say wet food isn't good for a Yorkie's teeth. They are known to get bad easily. Lots of Yorkies have to have teeth pulled when they start to age. Are you brushing your baby's teeth? That's imperative. |
