| How long should they be on Formula? I was wondering how long I should give my puppy formula? The breeder gave me my puppy today and he is only 5 weeks old. He was the smallest of the litter so I think he was the last consieved and needs it just a little longer, but I am not sure how much longer. He doesn't eat out of a bottle but chews it instead. I tried to give him some in a small bowl but he only had a few licks and went to sleep. He is in his bed now back asleep again. I bought him Royal Canin formula, a can of Purina puppy and a bag of purina puppy chow(the one with the little bones and veggie bites). I got him a bag of Royal Canin Yorkie to use as treats when he gets older. Thanks! |

| Wow your puppy is way to young to be with you. It should still be with the breeder and weaned way before you got it. I just wanted to tell you that you might want to post in the breeders section so a breeder sees this helps you.

| The breeder says he is weened already and the mom doesn't want to feed the pups any more. But I still think he needs extra nutients. |

| pup Hi and welcome You pup is big for 5 weeks..but still far too young to be away from mom. Do you know how much he weighs? Make sure the dry food is soaked well in puppy milk (canned goat's milk is perfect) you can feed baby food meat with milk also..best wishes |

| I agree that is to young to be away from its mommy , even if the mommy is no longer feeding the puppies. The breeder should of kept them a few weeks longer. Your baby will need the extra care. and you can get the nutracal at most pet stores. Good luck with the baby. Do keep us updated on her. |

| Ok I will have to go look for it. Our wal-mart is not like the states. There are no super centers. So as soon as it stops snowing I will have to go find it. Thanks. |

| Hes young, but now that its done it looks like you need some help At 5 weeks old he should be eating on his own,but he wont want dry kibble yet so soak it in water, chiken broth or formula for about 20 minutes before you give it to him.(I had to wean a pup myself in september and this worked for me) Also, make sure he eats at last every 4 hours even if you have to hand feed him at first,he is still very small and you will want to keep his sugar levels up.He doesnt have to eat ALOT,but he does need to eat REGULARLY Keep him warm and DONT take him outside or let him be in contact with other dogs until he has his shots I hope all goes well He is deffinately a cutie pie!!! |

| Ok Thanks. Tonight I gave him warm water with dry kibble soaked in it, plus a little wet puppy food. He doesn't like to drink much water but I get a little down him plus mixing extra water with food. He has been doing very well. After dinner he wanted to play hard and it was so cute! We have just one older dog but he is up on all his shots. It is way to cold here to take the pup out anywhere but his vet appt. |

| OK, I know I'm a little late on posting this but maybe you will receive it... Now I'm not a breeder or an expert with yorkies or anything but here is what I went though with my first Lucy when I brought her home so maybe this will help. When I first got Lucy I had never been on here and didn't know mcuh about puppies or yorkies.... I got Lucy at 7weeks and she was only 8oz. LAter I was told that was to young and to small, but I didn't know that when I got her.... Until you are able to get nutracal see if you have any karo syrup or something in the same in case she goes into a hypoglocemic seizure... That is what happened to my baby.... When we got her she ate hard food but after her seizure she did not want to ... the vet told us to feed her every two hours chicken flavored baby food. (just a spoon full) She would actually eat this most of the time. The baby food helps with a pup getting water also. The vet said she wouldn't drink much water b/c of all the water in the babyfood.... So theres just an idea if you can't get the pup to eat something solid. After about a month when she had a clean bill of health we started mixing in hard foor and eventually took out the babyfood all together. Crystal (Hope this helps some)

| Thanks Crystal. Titan does eat wet food with a big appetite. But drinks very little formula or water. I try to mix a good amount of water with the wet food to make sure he gets it down. I do have water offered all the time. He doesn't like the formula so much. He has to be a pound already. I have karo syrup. What if I mixed it in his food once a day? Just say maybe a 1/4 teaspoon? Or would that be too much? |

| Sorry, I can't help with that. I don't know what would be to much... I only had it for if she went into a seizure.... I was told by a couple people that I could put some in her water which i guess is the same thing as the food. I wish I was more help.... Good luck with your baby..... Crystal

| It is still good to have the information. Thank you for it. Tomorrow I am running out to the stores again. Hopefully the snow will stop! Do you know anything about puppy vitamins? |
