Bilious Vomiting Syndrome Last week my 11yo Biewer female threw up yellow bile and some white foam first thing in the morning when I let her out. I thought nothing of it because she was not acting lethargic, no diarrhea and ate her regular meal a half an hour later. She acted normal all through the day and through the rest of the week. Five days later it happened again. My neighbor, whose daughter-in-law works for a veterinary hospital told me that it could be that her stomach is empty at night and has nothing to digest which causes the build up of acid. They recommend feeding her a small meal or snack before bedtime which will eliminate this from happening. I will be trying this for the first time tonight and was wondering if anyone here has experienced this? If so, what worked for you? Any/all advice is appreciated. |
yes, and a small meal at night helped..... hopefully that's all it is |
Yep, I dealt with it for months with my yorkie, Jax. It scared me half to death at first. Here’s my post from the first time it happened, so you can compare your experience: https://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/si...g-episode.html As noted in the post, it started when Jax was between ten and eleven months old, and Jax only weighed about four pounds, so it was scary. Every episode — only about twice a month, but that was twice a month too often — was similar. The vet said it was bilious vomiting syndrome and that I had to get Jax to eat more frequently. A tall order, unfortunately, because as a pup, Jax had almost no interest in food of any kind, including treats. He refused to eat unless he decided he was hungry — and he was never hungry in the morning. So it was a running battle to coax food into him at regular enough intervals to prevent the bilious vomiting. Fortunately, he’s gotten better about eating as he’s gotten older (he’ll be two in September), and he hasn’t had a bilious episode for more than five months. Here’s a web article about it: https://www.petmd.com/blogs/nutritio...very-day-31825 |
Yep, it has happened to several of mine and a snack before bed helped. |
