| First heat coming soon Hello all Nova just turned 6 months so she might be in heat in a few months. I was wondering if it’s best to spay her before her first heat or wait one cycle? I hear different opinions do not sure what to do 🤷*♂️ Thanks |

| It’s best to do it now before her first heat. Before the first heat they have not developed Mammaries therefor they can not get mammary cancer but the mammories will develop after the first heat. LesS risk of complications also to do it now. The uterus can fill with pus and cause a very dangerous infection.

| Spay before first heat, that means now, she can come into heat anytime when she hits 6 months old. Don't take a chance, like Lovetodream advised mammary glands have not developed but will after first heat.

| I’d wait till she’s about 1 year old. Too many growth issues associated with hormones.

| The growth plates will still close whether spayed or not. The studies that have been done on this show with larger dogs it can make a difference but not with small breed dogs.
