Based on my own personal experience with yorkies and I am on #5, (my 4 girls are now passed) a yorkie being a terrier must absolutely be trained for commands. Once they get off lease they are off and running. Them not being neutered their testosterone is raging, in high gear. A intact male can smell a female in heat a mile away. If they see prey and are loose they are off, focused on the prey, sometimes even trained they are so focused on the kill they will not even hear you. A falling leaf can set them off lol. They must be trained to sit and stay when you open the front door. Last week my kid caught a possum on the deck, I was screaming and screaming at him to drop it, leave it, he had it in a corner, I thought for sure that possum would shred his face. He was so focused on his catch I don't know how, but finally he heard me and released the possum and in the house he came. Every night at 8PM he gets his treat after I put him through all his commands. This is a nightly routine I have been doing for 6 years. Once they have been trained in all commands we usually do not have to use all of them every day and reason why every night I put him through all of them to keep them fresh in his brain. You must work with your boys to enforce what they have been taught, these are terriers, hunters that can melt your heart with their cute lil personalities lol. |
