| Empy’s Cancer Hi everyone I haven’t been here in a while things with life have been so busy. Thursday I was giving Empanada a bath and noticed a bump so I took him to the vet Friday morning she said thought it might be anal gland cancer she took a sample and yesterday she called said it was what she thought. He’s 13 now but he still acts like a puppy. She said because it so small she thinks if we remove it he has a pretty good chance. Does anyone have any experience with this type of cancer or surgery? I have started a gofundme page any donations would be appreciated but more than that please just keep Empy in your thoughts and prayers. These last few days have been so emotional I go from sad to angry to fight mode and then I’m a circle again. I read post this lady said when you feel angry go kick the mail box, that has been the best advise I really feel bad for my mail box. I’m trying to stay strong because I know he can feel everything I feel. Every time I feel sad or angry I look down and he’s looking right back up and me and I know I have to keep it together for him. Sorry for the long post but if anyone has any advice or thoughts or just encouragement I could really use it right now.

| I'm sure that by now you've had a chance to read up on it. It's a rare cancer, but since you caught it early, the chances are better. I would have the surgery to have it removed as soon as possible, preferably by a board certified veterinary surgeon experienced with these kinds of procedures. With surgery, there's a good chance that Empanada will be able to live out the rest of his years.

| Here are a few good links for people who want to inform themselves about anal gland cancer in dogs: https://www.petmd.com/dog/conditions...carcinoma_anal Identifying and treating anal sac adenocarcinoma in dogs https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-p...l-gland-tumors https://www.acvs.org/small-animal/anal-sac-tumors Some of these articles are old, so treatment options and outcomes might have improved since then. If I find something more recent, I'll post it.

| Thank you all for the info and prayers. We did blood work and ultrasound this morning the dr is going to send the results to a specialist who will come in and do the surgery. I’m just waiting for him to look at them and get back to us about scheduling. I’m among for this week. Empy is sleeping right now and will go to the park later he doesn’t know anything is wrong so that’s good. I will keep you all updated

| Hi everyone Empys blood work came back today. His calcium levels are good but his kidney enzymes are high. Not sure if he was dehydrated or what but she wants to look into it more. Should hear back from the oncologist hopefully Thursday to find out what he thinks about surgery. Just wanted to keep you all updated. Thank you for thoughts and prayers.

| The dr. just called and looks like the cancer has NOT spread!!!!! 😂 The urine analysis came back every thing looks great with his kidneys. They scheduled surgery for March 9th. It has been a very long and emotional week but starting to feel a little better about everything. Empy has been up every few hours all night waiting for his dehydrated chicken to be finish and it’s finally done so going to give him some and celebrate. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

| Hello - I'm so sorry you're going through this. I've been there with my little one! Hugo will be 14 years old this April. In 2015 he was diagnosed w/ Anal Gland Carcinoma. I noticed a bump back there when giving him a bath, took him and after some testing the diagnosis came in. He had surgery and then 20 rounds of radiation - 5 days a week for a month. Thereafter, he was put on Palladia which is the chemo pill. Hugo's also had not spread. I believe it's a slow growing cancer which is good. He did great throughout the whole process. You wouldn't believe he had just gone through surgery and radiation. He just had another checkup last month w/ xrays and it hasn't come back or spread. So that's great news. Just yesterday I found it that he has squamous cell carcinoma however. I noticed a bump on his front left paw that he was licking and took him to the vet immediately. They poked it and sent cell samples to the Pathologist and that was the diagnosis. This is completely unrelated to the previous cancer. On Wednesday he goes in for an actual biopsy of the bump and then we will discuss the next step from there, surgery. Apparently, this too is a slow spreading cancer. He's super upbeat. Good appetite, paw doesn't seem to hurt , runs around, he does sleep a lot but he is almost 14. Prayers for this fighter! Where in CA are you located? |

| Sorry its been crazy few days Took so long to reply. I’m near Los Angeles. That’s great he went through the surgery ok. Did he have any issues going to the bathroom after? What was recovery time? I’m so sorry he has another growth. What did the doctors say? I have to drop Empy off in the morning at 8:00am I’m really worried but trying to stay calm for him. Please keep us and the dr in your prayers.
