I have 2 yorkies. Both had loose stool awhile ago. They were eating wellness turkey and sweet pot.. . Very loose stool. So frustrating. Finally got stool on the ID. Today they are still on ID I started Royal Cain sensitive stomach but read some complaints about that food. Now im scared to use that. The ingredients in the food don't sound healthy yet I hear royal canin is a good food. What do you all think . I haven't used a lot of different foods. Did chicken and rice, boiled beef and rice the vet said to do, tried pure vita, loose stool, back on ID. Thanks for your time and help. Sorry if I asked this on the wrong posts

I love Royal Canin they have lots of vets on staff and put a lot of research into their food. It takes dogs a few weeks to get used to a new food.

Thank you love to dream. You have been so faithful answerIng my food questions. Im going to start back feeding the mini royal canin sensitive stomach food. They really like the taste. Hopefully there will be two happy healthy yorkies.

I couldn't find royal canin sensitive stomach ingredients, but all the royal canin line is rated low by both dog food analysis and dog food advisor. In my opinion, it is way overpriced for the quality of ingredients. I don't think it is harmful to any dog, but there are better options. Wellness is top rated, but mine got loose stools too (different formula than you tried) so what a dog will eat and do well on is important.

Generally, you should look for a food without by-products (I believe RC is no longer using chickenbyproduct meal but not sure, also without corn or wheat which I believe is still in RC.

I'm feeding Blue Buffalo Life Protection now, but mine does not have a sensitive stomach in general.

Dog food advisor is done by a human dentist. He only rates by ingredients not by quality control, food trials, and so on. There is actual vets and research that go into their recipes. Blue buffalo has lost many lawsuits about lying what is in there foods. They also have very bad quality control and many dogs have gotten sick because of to many life source bits being in the food. They might be rated high by ingredients only but not a trustworthy company.

If they have good stool on the ID, and that's what the vet recommends...then why are you not just keeping them on this...?

I'm not a fan of Royal Canin - way too many allergens etc for dogs, and I don't really respect their business model at all. But if a certain RC diet DOES work for a particular dog - then by all means, feed it.

We use Taste of the Wild. It works well for us.

Same thing happened to us when using Wellness, switched to Welcome Home (get it at choice pets) and have not had any issues since. Not a fan of RC either.

Been looking at various healthy foods. What foods are good choices. My 2 are eating royal canin mini sensitive stomach. Ingredients start with Chicken meal, brewers rice, chicken fat, corn gluten meal, brewers rice flour, beet pulp, natural flavors, wheat gluten......
Is there too many grains in this food. My one dog has soft stool. Is it this food?

Have you thought of just keeping them on the prescription ID?

I'd like to give them a dry food along with the id. That id is very expensive. I could cut back on the I'd and they could eat the dry. What are you all feeding yorkiès with sensitive stomachs.

Honestly, you need to follow what the vet says. If the vet says "ID for now" -- then do that.

If it were me, I would use the ID for a SOLID 2 MONTHS, at least, before changing or adding a thing.

Otherwise, how will you ever resolve this soft poo issue if you keep adding new things?

You also mentioned that cost was a concern as you thought ID is expensive. However, sticking with ID in the end will be a lot less expensive than wasting money on other foods that don't work out and racking up vet bills.

Wet food is actually better but I believe they have ID in dry food.
