Orijen Regional Red I now have three Yorkies. My 7 year old Tink, a new 16 month old puppy Lilly bit, and a new 2 year old rescue, Audrey. After trying many foods, my Tink did best on Orijen Regional Red. She's a big girl that should weigh about 8.5 pounds. Unfortunately, she is 12 lbs, down from 14.5. I know... it's been hard making everyone around here understand that they have to stop giving her treats and tidbits off their plates; thus the beginning of the weight loss, finally! I'm hopeful of eventually getting her back down to 8 or 9 lbs. The new puppy came with Diamond puppy food and the rescue came with Purina Pro Plan puppy. I can't have puppy food left out or Tink will eat it. The rescue is 6.5 lbs and I think the puppy will be at least 7 lbs. (I get larger Yorkies as I am sight impaired and am afraid of stepping on them.) Can I put all three dogs on the Regional Red as I'd like to do? They are already stealing it, evidenced by the "Tootsie Rolls" in three different sizes out back. I searched on Orijen, but I didn't see too many people feeding it, much less to puppies. Please be honest. Should I put them all on something else or go to the Regional Red? Thank you. |
I feed chester the acana which is same company, acana is lower in protein and they are great foods. The puppy needs puppy food, they are a pretty dense food so you don't need to feed as much as purina or something. Champion pet food does there own food which is what I like. Good luck |
I have chester on acana which is the same company, less protein. THe puppy needs puppy food, but it is good food |
I use Acana, same company as Orijen, a bit less 'rich' I guess. A bit lower protein, lower fat, less ingredients. I use the Singles formulas personally with best luck. Nothing wrong with Orijen Regional Red though! It may not be the best for weight loss though. |
Thank you all. I will go swap the unopened bag I have for Acana. Which one do you recommend? There are a bazillion of them! |

I'll also get the puppy one and try to keep Tink out of it. Hard to do as she's quite the artful dodger when it comes to snitching food. |

Cali loved the Regional Red, but at just 4 pounds the size of the kibble made her mouth sore. It, is good food as is Arcana. |

Before reading that I shouldn't feed the puppy the Regional Red last night, I had already mixed in 1/8 RR with her Diamond that she has been eating at the breeders. She picked out all the RR and left the Diamond. Same with the 2 year old. So much for mixing during the change over. This morning, I gave them both the kibble they came with. Neither ate. Not sure if they both have upset tummies from the RR or they are waiting for more RR. Hope I didn't make them sick! |
Acana and Orijen are both okay for all life stages and fine for a puppy. |
