My Ruger not feeling well Ruger has thrown up 7 times in 24 hours. Only tummy juices & grass he's wanting to eat & not eat his food. Nothing has changed in his diet. Going to vet this afternoon. Really worried. I'm afraid he starting to dehydrate. Please pray he gets better. This is his first illness @ 16 months. Anything I can do before the Vet appointment? |
I hope Ruger gets a good report from your vet. He may have just have a stomach bug and I am glad you are having him checked out. Let us know what your vet says when you can. |
Sorry your little guy isn't feeling well! It's very scary not knowing what's wrong. Please update after the vet and let us know how he's doing. |
Other than trying to encourage your dog to drink water to stay hydrated, there not much you can do before your vet appointment this afternoon. (You might see if he is interested in drinking some salt-free chicken broth.) Hopefully it's just an acid stomach or temporary stomach flu. Try to discourage your dog from eating grass, but be sure to tell your vet that your dog has been eating grass--that's a symptom of upset stomach. Let us know what your vet says. |
Poor Ruger! Praying he just has a little tummy bug and will recover quickly. Glad you are seeing the vet today. My boys picked up something in our neighborhood once that made them vomit for 24 hours. Staying hydrated was a challenge because drinking caused them to vomit more. That is when subq or IV fluids are beneficial. Keep us updated on your sweet boy. |
Oh my! Back from the Vet with NO Ruger. Did a blood test in the office came back with inflammation of the pancreatous. So we're looking at pancreatictist. I have racked my brain trying to figure out what has caused this. His food hasn't changed, he gets healthy treats, dehydrated or boiled skinless chicken breast with his kibble. I'm worried sick. He's only 16 months & has NEVER been away from me.and another thing he's always on a leash outside. What has Happened to my baby. Please prayers & advice, please. I know I won't sleep tonight. The vet will be giving him IV fluids, pain medication, & if he wants it bland food. Will call me later this evening & tomorrow morning. My heart is in my throat |
OH dear! That is tough, but you have to tell yourself he is in the best place for his health right now. Many folks here on YT have dogs they care for who have the pancreatitus diagnosis. They will be able to tell you about their dogs. Hang in and keep us posted! Let your breeder know as genetics can play a role in this. |
I am so sorry to hear the diagnosis and that Ruger has to spend the night. Very good thing you brought him in today! You are a great mom. He remains in my prayers to come home soon and recover quickly. Pancreatitis is a bit of a mystery. It's not always related to food. Sometimes it can be stress, and sometimes nothing that can be pinpointed. As Jay indicated above, genetics can play a role. That said, any chance that someone else may have slipped Ruger an unapproved treat, or may have dropped something on the floor? What brand kibble does he eat and how long has he been on it? Pancreatitis can sometimes take a long time to build. |

Sharon, I am keeping your sweet boy in my prayers and hope he comes home soon. You are such a good Mom to bring him into the vet as soon as you did. Sometimes we can't figure out what may have caused a health issue and I have come to the conclusion that once you know what is happening, you can then put your attention to getting him well. Oh no.... poor poor Ruger! I'm so sorry to hear he's sick and needs to stay over night. But good work taking him into the vet asap. I don't know anything about pancreatitis either and can only imagine how hard it must be...try not to worry too much. At least he's taking the IV fluids and probably feeling a whole lot better while being treated. Praying that it's only a very minor case and that it was caught early enough that he will get better really soon!! |

Stop making yourself crazy over this diagnosis. I have a pup who was just hospitalized with pancreatitis....she has been on a strict low fat diet since 2011. Diet is not always the reason....they honestly do not know always what causes it. |
Ruger and you are in my thoughts. Was he able to come home yesterday? Praying he is feeling better each day. |

The Doctor & I can't think of anything setting this off. I took her a list of everything healthy we give him. He NEVER gets table scraps, no greasy foods. I use the dehydrator for skinless chicken breast, sweet potatoes, bananas. What we decided to do is limit to only kibble with that nasty can food they sent home, one treat @ a time. Being more consistent and not giving a variety. Yes, I'm worried sick about him eating anything. Buy, today has been good. In 2 weeks we go back for more blood work.
